The 19 year old posted a 1:55.60. That is the fifth best in the world this year, over a second off her season best.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leah Smith\u00a0<\/strong>also dazzled last night in the 400 freestyle. This morning she secured a lane in the semifinal with a 1:56.47.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Melanie Margalis <\/strong>was incredible relaxed before her swim and\u00a0posted a 1:57.61 to win the second circle seeded heat in a statement swim and the third overall seed.<\/p>\n<p>2012 Olympic gold medalist\u00a0<strong>Allison Schmitt\u00a0<\/strong>won the first circle seeded heat in 1:57.77. Her NBAC teammate\u00a0<strong>Cierra Runge\u00a0<\/strong>was just behind her in 1:58.11 for the fifth spot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shannon Vreeland\u00a0<\/strong>was a relay swimmer in 2012 and swam a 1:58.29 this morning to give herself another shot.<\/p>\n<p>With a 100 backstroke final looming ahead tonight,\u00a0<strong>Missy Franklin\u00a0<\/strong>tied for the seventh seed in 1:58.61. Georgia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Hali Flickinger\u00a0<\/strong>shares that seventh spot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sarah Gibson\u00a0<\/strong>of Texas A&amp;M was the first swimmer under two minutes this morning in 1:59.19 and she will return ninth.<\/p>\n<p>Sprint star\u00a0<strong>Simone Manuel\u00a0<\/strong>clocked a 1:59.27 this morning for tenth, followed by\u00a0<strong>Katie Drabot\u00a0<\/strong>in 11th (1:59.28).\u00a0<strong>Karlee Bispo\u00a0<\/strong>(1:59.29)\u00a0was just .01 behind her.<\/p>\n<p>Trojan<strong> Chlesea Chenault\u00a0<\/strong>(1:59.67) finished 13th.\u00a0<strong>Katie McLaughlin\u00a0<\/strong>played an important role in the 4&#215;200 freestyle relay last summer at the World Championships. This morning he was a 1:57.33.<\/p>\n<p>With an Olympic berth already under his belt,\u00a0<strong>Chase Kalisz\u00a0<\/strong>swam a 1:57.34 for the fourth seed.\u00a0<strong>Kyle Higgins\u00a0<\/strong>(1:57.41) will return to semifinals in fifth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tyler Clary,\u00a0<\/strong>who will also have a 200 freestyle final tonight, will return in the sixth spot after posting a 1:57.42 this morning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matthew Klueh\u00a0<\/strong>demolished his seed time with a 1:57.59 to come back seventh.\u00a0<strong>Adam Hinshaw\u00a0<\/strong>(1:57.60) and\u00a0<strong>Justin Wright\u00a0<\/strong>(1:57.68) will be eighth and ninth.<\/p>\n<p>Junior World record holder\u00a0<strong>Andrew Seliskar\u00a0<\/strong>posted a 1:57.77 for tenth.\u00a0In 1:57.94\u00a0<strong>Zach Harting\u00a0<\/strong>also earned a lane in tonight&#8217;s semifinals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tom Shields\u00a0<\/strong>was eighth at the 2015 World Championships in this event. She touched in 2:11.66 in prelims this morning.<\/p>\n<p>2012 Olympian<strong> Caitlin Leverenz\u00a0<\/strong>posted a 2:11.89 as she won the first circle seeded heat in her quest for a ticket to Rio. That swim will make her second headed into semifinals.<\/p>\n<p>In an impressive double,\u00a0<strong>Melanie Margalis\u00a0<\/strong>hopped back in the pool after her third ranked 200 freestyle.
