Women’s 100m Back<\/strong><\/p>\n

University of Georgia standout\u00a0Olivia Smoliga\u00a0<\/strong>entered as the fastest American this year with a world’s sixth 59.41 swum earlier this month in Indianapolis. This morning she swam a 59.65 for the top seed.<\/p>\n

Amy Bilquist\u00a0<\/strong>of Cal posted a 59.67 to launch her to a tie for tenth in the world this year with Hannah Stevens<\/strong> and to enter semifinals as the second seed.\u00a0Stevens\u00a0<\/strong>of the University of Missouri went a 59.72 this morning, just slower than her world’s tenth 59.67.<\/p>\n

Ali Deloof\u00a0<\/strong>was under world record pace at the 50 meter mark, and came home in 1:00.09 to take the fourth seed.<\/p>\n

Missy Franklin\u00a0<\/strong>entered with a 59.80, thev13th best in the world this year. Swimming in the second circle seeded heat Franklin posted a 1:00.35 for fifth.<\/p>\n

Michigan’s\u00a0Clara Smiddy\u00a0<\/strong>earned the sixth seed in 1:00.38.<\/p>\n

The first woman ever under a minute,\u00a0Natalie Coughlin<\/strong>, did not quite break the barrier this morning but posted a 1:00.75 for the seventh seed.<\/p>\n

2015 World Championships team member,\u00a0Kathleen Baker\u00a0<\/strong>tied for eighth with 16 year old\u00a0Grace Ariola\u00a0<\/strong>in\u00a01:00.79.<\/p>\n

Lucie Nordmann\u00a0<\/strong>(1:00.80),\u00a0Tasija Karosas\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.06),\u00a0Danielle Galyer\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.07),\u00a0Regan Smith\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.17),\u00a0Alex Walsh\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.20),\u00a0Annie Ochitwa\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.25), and\u00a0Taylor Garcia\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.32) also earned semifinals swims.<\/p>\n

2012 Olympian\u00a0Rachel Bootsma\u00a0<\/strong>did not make the semifinals after finishing 18th\u00a0in 1:01.34.<\/p>\n

Swimming with a broken hand, fourth seed\u00a0Claire Adams\u00a0<\/strong>ended up 45th (1:02.46) despite her valiant effort.<\/p>\n

Men’s 200m Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n

Conor Dwyer\u00a0<\/strong>entered with the\u00a0world’s third best time this year of 1:45.41. This morning he swam a 1:46.66 to take the top seed.<\/p>\n

Jack Conger\u00a0<\/strong>posted a 1:47.25 to return to tonight’s semifinals in second.<\/p>\n

Texas’\u00a0Clark Smith\u00a0<\/strong>won the first circle seeded heat with a strong back half. He stopped the clock in 1:47.68, good for the third seed.\u00a0His teammate and 2016 NCAA Champion in the yards edition of this event,\u00a0Townley Haas\u00a0<\/strong>swam a 1:47.74 for fourth.<\/p>\n

Battling a groin injury suffered yesterday,\u00a0Ryan Lochte <\/strong>posted a 1:47.77 for fifth.\u00a0Georgia’s\u00a0Gunnar Bentz<\/strong>\u00a0was a 1:47.86 good for sixth.<\/p>\n

Blake Pieroni\u00a0<\/strong>will return seventh with his\u00a01:47.93.<\/p>\n

After scratching last night’s 400 IM,\u00a0Tyler Clary\u00a0<\/strong>earned the eighth seed from lane 0. He touched in 1:48.11 this morning.<\/p>\n

Reed Malone\u00a0<\/strong>(1:48.24),\u00a0Michael Weiss <\/strong>(1:48.28),\u00a0Zane Grothe\u00a0<\/strong>(1:48.29),\u00a0Michael Wynalda\u00a0<\/strong>(1:48.30) and\u00a0Michael Klueh\u00a0<\/strong>(1:48.48) finished ninth through 13th.<\/p>\n

Junior world record holder\u00a0Maxime Roney\u00a0<\/strong>made a statement in the first 100 of the circle seeded heat, but faded to sixth in his heat with a 1:48.57, over a second from his 1:47.10 record. He will get a second swim in 14th.<\/p>\n

After qualifying for Rio in the 400 freestyle last night,\u00a0Connor Jaeger\u00a0<\/strong>swam a 1:48.59 for 15th.\u00a0Jonathan Roberts\u00a0<\/strong>rounds out tonight’s semifinals in 1:48.63.<\/p>\n

Women’s 100m Breaststroke<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lilly King\u00a0<\/strong>was dominant in this event in yards this spring and entered today with the world’s second fastest time this year of 1:05.73. This morning she touched in 1:06.45 to take the top seed.<\/p>\n

Katie Meili\u00a0<\/strong>came in with the fastest seed time. She jumped out to an early lead in the final circle seeded heat and came home in a 1:06.57, just off her world’s tenth best 1:06.46.<\/p>\n

Sarah Haase\u00a0<\/strong>popped a 1:06.31 earlier this month, good for seventh in the world this year. She pushed Meili and earned the third seed in 1:07.04.<\/p>\n

American and US Open record holder\u00a0Jessica Hardy\u00a0<\/strong>swam a 1:07.16 for fourth.\u00a0Louisville’s\u00a0Andee Cottrell\u00a0<\/strong>claimed fifth overall with a 1:07.21.<\/p>\n

Molly Hannis\u00a0<\/strong>of Tennessee Aquatics entered with\u00a0the world’s fifth best time in the world this year (1:06.16). She changed her tempo at the end and charged into the wall with a 1:07.27 to claim the sixth seed.<\/p>\n

2012 200 breaststroke Olympian\u00a0Micah Lawrence\u00a0<\/strong>touched second in the first circle seeded heat with a 1:07.35. Lawrence will return as the seventh seed. Fellow 2012 Olympian\u00a0Breeja Larson\u00a0<\/strong>will be eighth tonight after a prelims time of 1:07.37.<\/p>\n

Melanie Margalis\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 1:07.85 for for ninth.\u00a0Annie Lazor\u00a0<\/strong>(1:07.89),\u00a0Katharine Ross\u00a0<\/strong>(1:07.94),\u00a0Olivia Anderson\u00a0<\/strong>(1:08.14), and\u00a0Notre Dame post grad\u00a0Emma Reaney\u00a0<\/strong>(1:08.24) finished ninth through 13th.<\/p>\n

Last night’s third place finisher in the 400 IM\u00a0Bethany Galat\u00a0<\/strong>was 14th with a 1:06.46.\u00a0Miranda Tucker\u00a0<\/strong>(1:08.49) and\u00a0Allie Raab\u00a0<\/strong>(1:08.54) complete the semifinals.<\/p>\n

Men’s 100m Backstroke<\/strong><\/p>\n

David Plummer\u00a0<\/strong>posted the fastest time in the world this year with a 52.40 earlier this month. Today he touched in 53.22 for the top seed.<\/p>\n

Jacob Pebley\u00a0<\/strong>put together the world’s 17th best time earlier this month. He moved up to 15th this morning with a 53.48.<\/p>\n

Seventeen year old\u00a0Michael Taylor\u00a0<\/strong>of Dynamo posted a 53.77, nearly a second drop from his 54.62.<\/p>\n

Ryan Murphy\u00a0<\/strong>arrived in Omaha with the world’s third best time of 52.57. This morning he swam over a second slower in 53.84, though still good for fourth.<\/p>\n

Matt Grevers\u00a0<\/strong>was seeded in a world’s 12th 53.35. Swimming in his fifth Olympic Trials the 2012 Olympic gold medalist looked very in control as he posted a 53.98 for the fifth seed.<\/p>\n

Sean Lehane\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 54.49 and\u00a0Jake Taylor\u00a0<\/strong>swam a 54.50 for seventh.<\/p>\n

Eugene Godsoe\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed the eighth seed in 54.74.\u00a0John Shebat\u00a0<\/strong>(54.91),\u00a0Patrick Mulcare\u00a0<\/strong>(54.94) and\u00a0Taylor Dale\u00a0<\/strong>(54.95) finished ninth through 11th.\u00a0Justin Ress\u00a0<\/strong>and Ryan Harty\u00a0<\/strong>tied for 12th in\u00a055.00.\u00a0Hennessey Stuart\u00a0<\/strong>(55.40) was the last swimmer to secure his semifinal swim.<\/p>\n

Austin Katz,\u00a0<\/strong>Cameron Craig<\/strong>, and\u00a0Carter Griffin\u00a0<\/strong>all tied for 15th in 55.41, leaving us with a three way swim-off for the final two spots in the semifinals.<\/p>\n

**Swim-Off Update:<\/em><\/p>\n

Griffin (55.41) and Katz (55.44) got the last two spots in tonight’s semifinal. Craig was just behind in 55.75.<\/p>\n

Women’s 400 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n

Katie Ledecky\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Leah Smith\u00a0<\/strong>entered this event with the top two times in the world this year.<\/p>\n

Ledecky split a 1:59.03 at the halfway mark. She seemingly eased off in the back half, and remained in control, finishing in 4:02.62.<\/p>\n

Swimming in the first circle seeded heat, Smith touched in 4:03.14, just faster than her second best 4:03.33 swum in Indianapolis earlier this month.<\/p>\n

Olympic silver medalist Allison Schmitt\u00a0<\/strong>swam on\u00a0Smith’s hip and posted a 4:06.66 for the third seed for tonight’s final. Her North Baltimore training partner\u00a0Cierra Runge\u00a0<\/strong>was fourth in 4:07.12.<\/p>\n

UNC Chapel Hill graduate and Mission Viejo Nadador\u00a0Stephanie Peacock\u00a0<\/strong>returns fifth tonight with a 4:08.23.\u00a0Lindsay Vrooman <\/strong>of Badger Swim Club\u00a0<\/strong>finished sixth in 4:08.35.<\/p>\n

Hannah Cox\u00a0<\/strong>of Upper Valley was this morning’s seventh fastest swimmer in 4:09.83.\u00a0Hannah Moore\u00a0<\/strong>of NC State posted a 4:10.52 to grab the final spot in finals.<\/p>\n
