A prelims swim in Canada this morning turned heads.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Katerine Savard\u00a0<\/strong>broke the Canadian record in the women&#8217;s 50 butterfly this morning. Swimming in prelims at the Quebec Cup in Montreal she stopped the clock in 25.92, just .01 faster than the old record.<\/p>\n<p>Two weeks ago at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/andriy-govorov-among-new-meet-record-holders-at-day-2-of-mare-nostrum-canet\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mare Nostrum Canet<\/a> stop\u00a0<strong>Penny Oleksiak\u00a0<\/strong>clocked a 25.93. The 15 year old recorded a 25.97 at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/full-coverage-of-night-three-of-the-2016-arena-pro-swim-series-charlotte\/\" target=\"_blank\">Arena Pro Swim Series Charlotte<\/a> in May. Oleksiak&#8217;s time was also the World Junior record.<\/p>\n<p>Before Oleksiak claimed and lowered the record, it belonged to Savard who clocked a 26.05 at the 2013 World University Games.<\/p>\n<p>Savard will head to Rio on the Canadian 800 freestyle relay. At Canadian Olympic Trials in April, she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/swimming-canada-olympic-trials-pressure-what-pressure-15-year-old-penny-oleksiak-flys-pressure-what-pressure-15-year-old-oleksiak-shinesls-takeaway-pressure-what-pressure\/\" target=\"_blank\">finished third in the 100 butterfly<\/a>&#8211; one of the quickest events of the meet.
