There are several reasons to be impressed by <\/span><b>King\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">swim. First off, <\/span><b>King <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">completed the 36.5 mile swim in 21:19.45, which makes her circumnavigation <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the fastest in history<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The only other individual to complete the swim was <\/span><b>Sean O\u2019Connell, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who completed the feat in 1976 in a time of 43 hours and 27 minutes, while swimming one mile longer. The only other recorded swim was from a 50-person relay group that completed the swim over the course of two days.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Second, the pure logistics of the swim make it an impressive feat. <\/span><b>King <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">battled over two foot tall waves in addition to 12-14 knot winds while completing the swim. Commenting on her swim, <\/span><b>King <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">noted the team effort it took to successfully navigate around the island: \u201cThis was a team effort. This was not my swim\u2026I cannot own it. This would not have happened without the role that each of my incredible crew played. I owe this feat and share this incredible milestone in my career with all of them.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perhaps most exciting, open water swimming is a relatively new athletic adventure for <\/span><b>Lori King. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While she swam for La Salle University between 1993-1997, she only returned to swimming in 2004 and only started competing in open water events in 2010.
