The 2016 Oceania Championships began with the open water 10K on Monday in Fiji. Tuesday through Friday feature pool swimming at the Damodar Aquatic Centre, before the week finishes with the 5K on Saturday. Fifteen\u00a0delegations are competing.<\/p>\n
In the 10K at the Upraising Beach Resort,\u00a0Alessandra Colombini\u00a0<\/strong>of Australia was the top finisher with a 2:41:50.5. Fellow Australian\u00a0Bianca Crisp\u00a0<\/strong>was second in 2:42:27.8 and New Zealand’s\u00a0Stephanie Gillespie\u00a0<\/strong>was third.<\/p>\n For the men, Australia’s\u00a0Jack Brazier\u00a0<\/strong>finished first while his teammate\u00a0Lachlan Coluhoun\u00a0<\/strong>earned silver.<\/p>\n Australia picked up another win in the first pool event as\u00a0Cameron Jones\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 24.27 to top the men’s 50 butterfly. In second was 34 year old veteran\u00a0Ryan Pini\u00a0<\/strong>of Papau New Guinea in 24.45. Third went to New Zealand’s\u00a0Daniel Hunter\u00a0<\/strong>with a 24.62.<\/p>\n For the women,\u00a0Helena Gasson\u00a0<\/strong>of New Zealand was first to the wall in 27.14. Joining her under 28 seconds were Australian teammates\u00a0Mikaela Cornelissen\u00a0<\/strong>(27.47) and\u00a0Abby Duncan\u00a0<\/strong>(27.58).<\/p>\n
