This week, Queens University of Charlotte head coach <\/span><b>Jeff Dugdale <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">announced <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/john-long-named-associate-head-coach-at-queens-university\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the promotion of <\/span><b>John Long<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to Associate Head Coach &amp; Triathlete and Club Swimming Coordinator<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>Long<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has coached the Queens swimmers for the past four years, helping them rise from a top 10 team to national champions in the last two years. <\/span><b>Long <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was also a member of the Queens team as an athlete, finishing his career there at NCAA\u2019s in 2012. He recently qualified for the 2016 Olympic Trials, his second time qualifying for the meet. In Division III news, <\/span><b>Casey Brandt <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/207310-2\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was announced as the new head coach at St. Mary\u2019s College of Maryland.<\/span><\/a> <b>Brandt <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is no stranger to the area, having served as the head coach of the Chesapeake Bay Aquatic Club for the past seven years and several other clubs across Maryland. Fellow Australian <\/span><b>Matt Abood <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was also added to the roster for the event, officially qualifying the 30 year old for his first Olympic team. All three were selected for the 4 x 100 freestyle relay following FINA\u2019s confirmation of Australia\u2019s quota spot. The three Aussies finished third, fourth, and fifth in the 100 free at Australian Trials back in April and have had to wait for confirmation of the relay quota spot after the Australian men\u2019s relay placed outside of the top 12 at the World Championships last summer. Photo Credit \/ Anesh Debiky\/Swim SA\" width=\"700\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-195669\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo Courtesy: Anesh Debiky\/Swimming South Africa<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Athletes from around the world continued gearing up for the 2016 Rio Olympics at the second stop of the Mare Nostrum tour in Canet. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/new-meet-records-for-chad-le-clos-hosszu-at-mare-nostrum-canet\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first day of the meet saw<\/span><\/a> <b>Chad le Clos<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> take the win in the 100 butterfly (51.56) in a meet record, as well as close wins from Denmark\u2019s <\/span><b>Jeanette Ottesen <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the 50 free (24.66) and 100 butterfly (57.40).\u00a0<\/span><b>le Clos <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">backed up his world leading time in the 200 butterfly from last week on day 2 of the meet, touching just .02 behind to grab the win in 1:54.82. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/andriy-govorov-among-new-meet-record-holders-at-day-2-of-mare-nostrum-canet\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Highlights from day 2 of the meet included<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Canadian <\/span><b>Penny Oleksiak <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">posting a fast win in the 100 freestyle (53.49), while world leader <\/span><b>Marco Koch <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was upset in the 200 breaststroke by just .07. Bick<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Mare Nostrum tour continued later in the week in Barcelona, with several new faces joining some familiar faces from the first two tour stops. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/207362-2\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first day of the meet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> saw eight meet records fall. Two of those included British breaststroker\u00a0<\/span><b>Adam Peaty <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the 100 breast (59.07) and Hungarian <\/span><b>Katinka Hosszu <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">posting a dominating win in the 400 IM (4:30.75). During that incident, <\/span><b>Turner <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was pulled off of the unconscious victim by two graduate students and was held after trying to flee the scene until police arrived. Facing the possibility of up to 14 years in a California prison, <\/span><b>Turner <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2016\/jun\/02\/stanford-swimmer-sexual-assault-brock-allen-turner-palo-alto#img-1\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">received a 6-month county jail sentence and 3 years of probation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from Judge <\/span><b>Aaron Perksy. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The case has sparked a national conversation about the impact of sexual assault on victims that was sparked in part by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sccgov.org\/sites\/da\/newsroom\/newsreleases\/Documents\/B-Turner%20VIS.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">release of a widely shared open letter<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from the victim<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. People around the country have also publicly stated their support for the victim, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2016\/06\/09\/politics\/joe-biden-brock-turner-rape\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">including Vice President <\/span><b>Joe Biden<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. A national debate about the nature of privilege and race related to the sentence has also been taking place, fueled by what has been described as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/morning-mix\/wp\/2016\/06\/06\/a-steep-price-to-pay-for-20-minutes-of-action-dad-defends-stanford-sex-offender\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a \u201ctone deaf\u201d letter to the judge from the victim\u2019s father.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This week, USA Swimming <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/brock-turner-no-longer-eligible-for-usa-swimming-membership\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also added <\/span><b>Turner <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will never be eligible to become a member<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>Turner\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight:
