FEDERAL WAY, Washington, March 12. THE second night of swimming at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Federal Way, Wash., featured several meet-record swims.<\/p>\n
Colorado Stars' Missy Franklin, 13, opened the night with a meet-record time of 48.48 in the women's 100-yard free. That performance eclipsed the 49.26 set by Lauren Thies in 2007. Bearcat Tori Simenec took second in 50.14, while KING's Kim Jasmer finished third in 50.14. Bellevue's Troy Davidson won the men's 100-yard free in 44.22, while Silver Fin Tyler Messerschmidt placed second in 44.61. North Jeffco's John Dalton wound up third in 44.75.<\/p>\n
KING's Megan Jendrick cruised through the women's 200-yard breast in 2:07.91, while North Jeffco's Katie Johnson (2:13.75) and KING's Lindsey Marchand (2:13.89) completed the top three. Rio Salado's Carl Mickelson topped the men's 200-yard breast in 2:00.44, while Sun Devil's CJ Nuess finished second in 2:01.70. Cascade's Owen Wurzbacher touched third in 2:02.22.<\/p>\n
Mission Aurora's Bonnie Brandon led a trio of swimmers under the meet record in the 200-yard back with a time of 1:54.79. Meanwhile, Franklin (1:55.06) and Denver Hilltopper Kirsten Milberg (1:55.45) also cleared the previous record of 1:55.96 set by Ariana Kukors in 2007. Heat's Austin Ringquist joined the record breaking with a 1:45.41 in the men's 200-yard back. The readout clipped the 1:45.96 set by Trent Staley back in 2005. Messerschmidt earned another second-place finish with a 1:47.79, while Connor McCarroll of the Thunderbolts placed third in 1:47.89.<\/p>\n
KING's Andie Taylor nipped a meet record in the women's 200-yard fly with a time of 1:56.29. The performance edged the 1:56.48 set by Dana Kirk back in 2002. Taylor's teammate Marchand finished second in 1:58.15, while Simenec took third in 1:58.25. Tacoma's Jeremy Gregory won the men's 200-yard fly in 1:46.32, while Lobo Marcus Guttmann (1:47.92) and Scottsdale's Tudor Florea (1:49.34) completed the top three.<\/p>\n
KING's loaded women's 200-yard medley relay squad of Ariana Kukors, Jendrick, Margaret Hoelzer and Jasmer won in a meet-record time of 1:39.25. The time beat the previous record of 1:40.91 set by KING in 2007. Meanwhile, Denver Hilltopper foursome Kyle Milberg, Casey Story, Coleton Worsley and Daniel Jurgs clocked a meet-record time of 1:32.34 in the men's 200-yard medley relay.
