FEDERAL WAY, Washington, March 12. DURING an abbreviated first night of swimming, several meet records took a fall at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Federal Way, Wash., over short course yards.<\/p>\n
KING's Andie Taylor beat Mission Aurora's Bonnie Brandon, 9:43.38 to 9:45.47, to win the women's 1000-yard free as both swimming cleared the meet record. Ashley Evans of BEST owned the previous top time with a 9:49.36 set in 2007.<\/p>\n
In an incredibly close finish, West Coast's Bryan Michaels touched out Loveland's Jacob Ores, 9:13.86 to 9:13.91, for the men's 1000-yard freestyle victory to complete individual swims for the evening.<\/p>\n
The 200-yard free relays concluded the quick night. KING's loaded A team of Megan Jendrick, Margaret Hoelzer, Kimberly Jasmer and Ariana Kukors blasted the meet record with a 1:30.55. KING previously set the record in 2007 with a 1:32.92. Notably, KING's B team of Lindsey Marchand, Chelsea Bailey, Mattie Kukors and Taylor cleared the previous standard with a second-place 1:32.56.<\/p>\n
The men's relay came down to a close finish, just like the distance event earlier in the evening. The Denver Hilltopper foursome of Brian Krump, Coleton Worsley, Daniel Jurgs and Casey Story beat out Bellevue's Devon Morris, Mark Molnar, Murray Longbotham and Ethan Hallowell, 1:23.24 to 1:23.75.
