The University of Toledo <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/university-of-toledo-hires-jonas-persson-as-new-head-coach\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hired <\/span><b>Jonas Persson<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as its head women\u2019s swimming and diving coach<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>Persson <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was the former University of Utah Head Coach, where he worked primarily with sprinters. He was part of a coaching staff that saw every men\u2019s team record and 17 women\u2019s team records broken in the last five years, including sending seven athletes to NCAA\u2019s. Florida Head Coach, <\/span><b>Gregg Troy, <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/jeff-poppell-added-as-associate-head-coach-at-university-of-florida\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">announced this week the addition of <\/span><b>Jeff Poppell<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the Gator coaching staff<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>Poppell<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will take over duties as Associate Head Coach. <\/span><b>Poppell\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">resume includes stints as the head coach for Gulliver Preparatory School and Gulliver Swim Club for four years, the women\u2019s head coach at the University of Arkansas for six years, and a part of the Bolles School coaching staff (where sophomore <\/span><b>Caeleb Dressel <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">trained in high school) for 13 seasons. Swimming in the pool that he set his first world record in 15 years ago, <\/span><b>Phelps <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">had an up and down meet. While he posted a win in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/joseph-schooling-edges-michael-phelps-in-100-fly-at-longhorn-elite-invite\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the 100 freestyle (49.49)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to kick off the meet, he failed to grab the top spot in any other event. The greatest Olympian of all-time finished second to <\/span><b>Joseph Schooling <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the 100 butterfly, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/chase-kalisz-highlights-night-two-of-longhorn-aquatics-elite-invite\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was fourth in the 200 free (1:48.73)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and scratched out of the 200 IM after qualifying fifth in 2:05.89. <\/span><b>Schooling, <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/joseph-schooling-and-quah-zheng-wen-named-to-singapores-olympic-roster\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who this week was officially named to the Singapore Olympic Team<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, touched out <\/span><b>Phelps <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the 100 butterfly, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/joseph-schooling-edges-michael-phelps-in-100-fly-at-longhorn-elite-invite\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hitting the wall in 51.58 to the Olympic legend\u2019s 51.65<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the women\u2019s side, <\/span><b>Allison Schmitt <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">put together one of her strongest meets since 2012. <\/span><b>Schmitt <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/joseph-schooling-edges-michael-phelps-in-100-fly-at-longhorn-elite-invite\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">won the 100 freestyle in 54.30<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2016-longhorn-aquatics-elite-invite-day-2-finals-live-recap\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">200 freestyle in 1:56.87<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
