Olympian Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace<\/strong> earned 50 Free\/100 Free double honors this last night of finals at the 2016 Arena Pro Swim Series Indianapolis. Other stellar performances came in the distance events from Leah Smith<\/strong> in the 800 free and Connor Jaeger<\/strong> in the 1500. Jay Litherland<\/strong> and Melanie Margalis<\/strong> dominated the IM event.<\/p>\n

Leah Smith<\/strong>, last night’s 400 freestyle winner and second\u00a0ranked in the world in the same event, continues\u00a0her freestyle dominance this\u00a0last night of finals in Indy. Smith kicked off the night by winning the 800 freestyle by nearly two and a half seconds (8:24.87). Swim Ontario’s\u00a0Brittany Maclean<\/strong>, who qualified to represent Canada in the Summer Olympics,\u00a0came in second at an 8:27.32. Third went to Gator Swim Club’s Andrea Pinto<\/strong> at an 8:28.68.<\/p>\n

Saint Petersburg’s Melanie Margalis<\/strong> dominated the A-finals tonight, cruising to a win in a 2:11.25. Although Margalis was off of her meet entry\u00a0time (2:10.20) by over a second, her final time still places her top-12 in the world in the event. Kaitlyn Jones<\/strong>, swimming unattached, came in second at a 2:14.50, while third went to Vien Nguyen<\/strong> at a 2:15.55.<\/p>\n

Dynamo Swim Club’s Jay Litherland<\/strong> had a breakout swim tonight in the 200 IM. Litherland cut over three seconds from his 2:03.25 preliminary swim – which placed him in lane two in finals – to overtake the field for the win in a 1:59.93. Litherland was the only competitor to break the two minute mark. Athens Bulldogs’ Gunnar Bentz<\/strong> took three seconds off his 2:03.15 prelim time in a head to head battle with Litherland tonight. Bentz ended up placing second with a 2:00.06. Third went to top seed Mark Szaranek<\/strong> of Scotland with a 2:02.66.<\/p>\n

The battle for first tonight was between Bluefish Swim Club’s Erin Voss<\/strong> (lane five) and top finals seed Dominique Bouchard<\/strong> of Oakville. The final touch went to Voss, who surged the final 50 in a 32.37, the fastest final split of the field, and finished in a 2:10.12, seven-tenths ahead of Bouchard, who touched in a 2:10.87. Third went to Lakeside Swim Team’s Asia Seidt<\/strong> (2:12.05) out in lane seven.<\/p>\n

New York Athletic Club’s Arkady Vyatchanin<\/strong> was on a mission to win tonight’s A-finals. Ahead from the start, Vyatchanin took over two seconds off his 2:00.47 preliminary swim for his 1:58.40 winning time. St. Thomas Swimming’s Rex Tullius<\/strong> surged the field from lane six for the second position, touching the wall in a 2:00.27. Third went to Aaron Greene<\/strong> with a 2:00.89.<\/p>\n

50 free winner Arianna Vanderpool Wallace<\/strong>, representing SwimMac, racked up another win in tonight’s 100 freestyle. Turning in a 25.99 50 split, Wallace maintained her lead through the finish, touching the wall in a 54.18, almost half a second ahead of second-place finisher Olivia Smoliga<\/strong> (54.66) of the Athens Bulldogs. Third went to Kelsi Worrell<\/strong> at a 54.96.<\/p>\n

Canada’s Santo Condorelli<\/strong>, currently ranked 10th in the world in the 100 free at a 48.09, touched the wall first in finals at a 48.34,\u00a0despite being a\u00a0few tenths off his season best time. Condorelli lead the field by a considerable margin, with second going to Marcelo Chierighini<\/strong> at a 49.27. Cardinal Aquatic’s Joao De Lucca<\/strong> touched third in a 49.62. The top seed from prelims, Josh Schneider<\/strong> (New York Athletic Club) slipped to fourth with a 49.69.<\/p>\n

Men’s 1500 Free<\/strong><\/p>\n

Club Wolverine’s Connor Jaeger<\/strong> posted the fastest time of the day in the men’s timed final 1500 freestyle, with a 15:28.34. The 2012 Olympic qualifier beat his teammate\u00a0Patrick Ransford<\/strong> by 2.58 seconds. Ransford swam a 15:30.92 for second. Third went to La Mirna Armada’s Brad Gonzales<\/strong> (15:41.94).<\/p>\n

There was a rare 1500 tie for eighth between James Stevenson<\/strong> and Ian Rainey<\/strong>, both touching at 15:55.39.<\/p>\n
