VICTORIA, Canada, March 10. SOME top-flight swimming took place at the 29th Annual Victoria Masters meet held this past weekend over long course meters as eight FINA Masters world records were bettered.<\/p>\n
American Gail Roper enjoyed a standpoint meet in the 80-84 age division with a FINA Masters world record trifecta. She clocked a swift time of 47.37 in the 50 fly to beat the previous record of 57.43 set by compatriot Lois Kivi Nochamn in 2004. <\/p>\n
Roper then stopped the clock in 1:27.55 in the 100 free to clear the 1:35.64 set by Jean Troy in 2007 before posting a 38.64 in the 50 free. That readout lowered the 40.45 set by Florence Carr back in 2005.<\/p>\n
In the men's 75-79 division, David Radcliff also had a strong outing with three FINA Masters world records of his own. In the 800 free, he turned in an 11:14.61 to clip the 11:25.95 set by Graham Johnston in 2006.<\/p>\n
Radcliff followed with a 5:17.77 in the 400 free to beat another Johnston record of 5:32.06 set in 2006. Additionally, Radcliff raced to a 1:07.07 in the 100 free to down Japan's Shingo Yamamoto's 2008 record of 1:10.02.<\/p>\n
Local swimmer Cindy Mabee gave her home crowd something to cheer for with a pair of FINA Masters world records as well in the women's 40-44 age division. She clocked a time of 1:07.06 in the 100 back to nip Karlyn Pipes-Neilsen's 2003 record of 1:07.69, while also registering a 31.49 in the 50 back to beat the 31.69 recorded by Japan's Junko Nakano in 2008.<\/p>\n
