2016 Longhorn Aquatics Elite Invite, Day 3 Prelims – Results<\/a><\/p>\n

On the third and final day\u00a0of the 2016 Longhorn Aquatics Elite Invite, a collection of\u00a0national level elite swimmers, including world record holders Missy Franklin<\/strong> and Matt Grevers<\/strong>, will compete in the 200 fly, 100 breast, 100 back, and 200 IM. The top seeds\u00a0in the women\u2019s 800 free and men\u2019s 1500\u00a0free will have timed finals in tonight’s final session.<\/p>\n

Order of Events:
\n200 Butterfly
\n100 Breaststroke
\n800 Freestyle (Women)
\n1500 Freestyle (Men)
\n100 Backstroke
\n200 IM<\/p>\n

Women’s 200 Fly<\/strong><\/p>\n

All of this morning’s competitors will have a second shot at bettering their 200 fly this evening. However, top finals qualifier Dakota Luther<\/strong>, of Austin Swim Club, managed to better her entry time by just a sliver. She earned lane 4 in finals tonight with a 2:12.79. Longhorn Aquatic’s Victoria Edward<\/strong> is second (2:15.04) and Remedy Rule<\/strong> is third (2:16.42).<\/p>\n

Men’s 200 Fly<\/strong><\/p>\n

The men had to fight for spots in the A-finals this morning, and North Baltimore’s Chase Kalisz<\/strong> – who has been racking up wins this weekend – overtook Nation’s Capital’s Jack Conger<\/strong> for the top spot. Kalisz’s 1:59.86 preliminary swim places him nearly two seconds ahead of Conger, who swam a 2:01.61 this morning. Third in finals goes to Joseph Schooling<\/strong> (2:01.83). It should be an intense battle for first between these three in tonight’s finals.<\/p>\n

Women’s 100\u00a0Breast<\/strong><\/p>\n

The women had to swim under the 1:15 mark this morning to earn a second swim. In the group, Olivia Anderson<\/strong> was the only woman to break the 1:10 mark with her 1:09.84. Anderson earned the top seed position in tonight’s finals. Second position goes to late entrant\u00a0Laura Sogar<\/strong> (1:11.32). Dynamo Swim Club’s Allie Reiter<\/strong> qualified third in a 1:12.48.<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 Breast<\/strong><\/p>\n

Top entrant Andrew Wilson<\/strong>, of Longhorn Aquatics, maintained his position going into tonight’s finals. His 1:01.55 places him in the coveted middle lane. Racing next to him will be Will Licon<\/strong> (1:02.31), seeded second, and Irish Aquatic’s Trent Jackson<\/strong> (1:03.43), seeded third. It came down to swimming under a 1:05 in prelims to qualify for a spot in tonight’s A-finals.<\/p>\n

Women’s 100 Back<\/strong><\/p>\n

It was a tight race to make it back to finals for the women swimming the 100 back this morning. Only two tenths separated fourth from ninth. Colorado Star’s Missy Franklin<\/strong> was bumped from her top seed position to second by Tasija Karosas<\/strong>. Karosas touched the wall in a 1:01.50 this morning, right on her entry time. Franklin was a 1:01.65 for second, and third went to\u00a0Tucson Ford’s Bonnie Brandon<\/strong>, at a 1:02.52.<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 Back<\/strong><\/p>\n

World Record Holder Matt Grevers<\/strong>, of Tucson Ford, cruised to a 55.91 final time this morning. Grevers is entered at a 52.08, a time he will hopefully approach in the A-finals tonight. Second this morning was Athens Bulldogs’ Taylor Dale<\/strong> (55.98), and third going into finals is Nation’s Capital’s John Shebat<\/strong> (56.13).<\/p>\n

Women’s 200 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n

A morning disqualification means that all of the women’s 200 IM competitors will have a second shot at swimming the event in tonight’s A-finals. Texas’ Madisyn Cox<\/strong> qualifies first in finals with a 2:14.64. Cox is seeded over four seconds ahead of her nearest competitor,\u00a0Annie Zhu<\/strong> (2:18.77), who is representing the Athens Bulldogs. Third in finals goes to Regan Barney<\/strong>, who swam a 2:19.90 this morning.<\/p>\n

Men’s 200 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n

Will Licon<\/strong> earns his second swim of the night in the men’s 200 IM. His 2:04.70 places him first in tonight’s finals, a half-second ahead of North Baltimore’s Austin Surhoff<\/strong> (2:05.24) and Mohamed Hussein<\/strong> (2:05.30). Michael Phelps<\/strong> cruised into fifth position tonight, over ten seconds off his entry time at a 2:04.89.<\/p>\n

North Baltimore’s David Nolan<\/strong>, who was entered fourth in the meet, failed to qualify for tonight’s A-finals but one one-hundredth of a second. Nolan’s 2:06.22 was just off the 2:06.21 that went to Andrew Porter<\/strong> for eighth.<\/p>\n
