AUSTIN, Texas, March 6. THE second night of long course meter finals came to a close at the USA Swimming Grand Prix held in Austin, Texas. Several quick swims took place throughout the night.<\/p>\n
Women's 400 IM<\/b>
\nIn a battle of young superstars, Olympian Elizabeth Beisel of Bluefish held off Minot's Dagny Knutson, 4:41.30 to 4:42.70. Meanwhile, El Dorado's Caitlin Leverenz rounded out the top three in 4:42.97.<\/p>\n
Men's 400 IM<\/b>
\nDelaware's Andrew Gemmell raced through the distance medley event with a winning time of 4:17.97. Germany's Yannick Lebherz collected second-place honors in 4:18.84, while Club Wolverine's Alex Vanderkaay claimed third in 4:19.63.<\/p>\n
Women's 100 breast<\/b>
\nTrojan's Keri Hehn used a strong backhalf to clinch the 100 breast title in 1:08.89. Lakeside's Elizabeth Tinnon took second in 1:09.49, while Suburban's Corrie Clark touched third in 1:09.78.<\/p>\n
Men's 100 breast<\/b>
\nLonghorn's Eric Shanteau rolled through the men's 100 breast event with a top time of 1:00.09. Coral Springs's Vlad Polyakov finished second in the event in 1:01.93, while Shanteau's teammate Matthew Lowe took third in 1:02.42.<\/p>\n
Women's 100 back<\/b>
\nBack in Austin where she trained as a Longhorn for many years, Hayley McGregory, now of North Baltimore, claimed the 100 back crown in 1:00.59. Athens Bulldog Mary DeScenza, who headed into the meet in the overall Grand Prix lead, took second in 1:01.88. Bluefish's Elizabeth Beisel completed the top three in 1:02.40.<\/p>\n
Men's 100 back<\/b>
\nIndiana's Ben Hesen used a tremendous first half to hold off a nearly equal back half of North Baltimore's Nick Thoman to win 54.84 to 54.92. Hesen went out in 26.61, while Thoman came home in 28.09. Tucson Ford's Albert Subirats actually held the lead at the flip with a 26.54 50-meter split before settling for third in 55.26.<\/p>\n
Women's 200 free<\/b>
\nKatie Hoff of North Baltimore continued her strong meet with a triumphant time of 1:58.39 in the 200 free. Athens Bulldogs went 2-3 in the event as Kara Lynn Joyce cleared 2:00 for second with a time of 1:59.32. Mary DeScenza earned another medal, this time with a third-place effort of 2:00.61.<\/p>\n

\nClub Wolverine's Peter Vanderkaay clinched a commanding victory in the 200 free with a time of 1:46.57. Longhorn's Garrett Weber-Gale touched out Ryan Harrison, 1:49.63 to 1:49.71, for second place. Germany's Christian Kuhbusch finished just behind with a fourth-place 1:49.73.<\/p>\n
Women's 200 medley relay<\/b>
\nBluefish's team of Elizabeth Beisel, Laura Sogar, Alex Forrester and Alex Frasier snatched the title in 1:59.26. Longhorn's Ruthie Norval, Tanica Jamison, Krista Kezbers and Samantha Tucker placed second in 2:00.79, while North Coast's Kendyl Stewart, Jessica Schmitt, Allison Knight and Mikkel-ane Stipe wound up third in 2:01.21.<\/p>\n
Men's 200 medley relay<\/b>
\nGermany's Felix Wolf, Max Werkmeister, Johannes Dietrich and Benjamin Bilski won the race in 1:43.60, while TCU's Laszlo Gyurko, David Miller, Friedrich Grott and Joshua Bagby placed second in 1:46.26.
