Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Tamas Kenderesi\u00a0<\/strong>swam the sixth best time with a 1:55.11, just off his own fourth 1:54.79.\u00a0<strong>Evgeny Koptelov\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 1:57.88.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Katinka Hosszu\u00a0<\/strong>raced to a win in the 400 IM this evening with a 4:34.14.\u00a0In just the past two weeks, she also won that event at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katinka-hosszu-clips-own-meet-record-in-400-im-at-euros\/\" target=\"_blank\">European Championships<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katinka-hosszu-tunes-up-at-romania-international\/\" target=\"_blank\">the Romanian International<\/a>. That is the fifth fastest time in the world this year, in an event where Hosszu already owns the fastest mark.\u00a0<strong>Jordis Steinegger\u00a0<\/strong>of Austria was second in 4:49.50 and third went to France&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lisa Pou\u00a0<\/strong>in 5:01.68.<\/p>\n<p>Hosszu came back for another victory in the 200 backstroke, stopping the clock in 2:09.58. Second went to\u00a0<strong>Kirsty Coventry\u00a0<\/strong>of Zimbabwe in 2:10.97. Iceland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Eyglo Oks Gustafsdottir\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 2:13.80.<\/p>\n<p>Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Marco Koch\u00a0<\/strong>is the current world leader in the 200 breaststroke. Tonight he touched in 2:09.45, the eighth best time this year.\u00a0<strong>Jarred chad Crous\u00a0<\/strong>of South Africa won silver in 2:11.67 and bronze went to\u00a0<strong>Feilian Mao\u00a0<\/strong>of China in 2:12.91.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kierra Smith <\/strong>won\u00a0the 100 breaststroke <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/kierra-smith-wins-100-and-200-breaststrokes-in-olympic-tune-up-at-mel-zajac\/\" target=\"_blank\">just last weekend<\/a> at the Mel Zajac Invite. She topped the podium again today in 1:08.94.\u00a0<strong>Jinq-En Phee\u00a0<\/strong>of Malaysia finished second in 1:09.18 and Spain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Marina Garcia Urzainqui\u00a0<\/strong>completed the podium with a 1:09.47.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Devon Myles William Brown\u00a0<\/strong>of South Africa won a close men&#8217;s 400 freestyle, stopping the clock in 3:49.96, ahead of\u00a0<strong>Welson wee sheng Sim\u00a0<\/strong>of Malaysia in 3:50.66.\u00a0<strong>Marwan El Kamassh\u00a0<\/strong>of Egypt earned bronze with a 3:52.42.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andrey Grechin\u00a0<\/strong>stopped the clock in 49.03 to lead the men&#8217;s 100 freestyle.\u00a0<strong>Steffen Deibler\u00a0<\/strong>of Germany and France&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Clement Mignon\u00a0<\/strong>touched just behind in 49.15 and 49.17.<\/p>\n<p>The top four women in the 100 butterfly finished under a minute.\u00a0<strong>Svetlana Chimrova\u00a0<\/strong>of Russia was first in 58.33.\u00a0<strong>Liliana Szilagyi <\/strong>of Hungary<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>touched second in 58.80 and France&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Marie Wattel\u00a0<\/strong>finished third with a 58.87.<\/p>\n<p>In 54.07\u00a0<strong>Jan Philip Glania\u00a0<\/strong>of Germany topped the podium in the men&#8217;s 100 backstroke.\u00a0<strong>Camille Lacourt\u00a0<\/strong>of France followed in 54.78 while Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Benjamin Treffers\u00a0<\/strong>touched third in 55.40.<\/p>\n<p>Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Philip Heintz\u00a0<\/strong>won the men&#8217;s 200 IM in 2:00.56, over a second in front of Switzerland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jeremy Desplanches\u00a0<\/strong>in 2:01.73.\u00a0<strong>Marcin Cieslak\u00a0<\/strong>of Poland was third with a 2:02.09.<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/results\/2016-mare-nostrum-monaco-day-1-finals-day-1\/international-elite\/2016\/June\/4\" target=\"_blank\">2016 Mare Nostrum: Monaco Day 1 Finals &#8211; Results<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There were a number of impressive swims at the first of two nights of the Monaco stop of the Mare Nostrum.
