2016 Arena Pro Swim Indianapolis: Day 2 Prelims – Results<\/a><\/p>\n

Women’s 200 Fly<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kelsi Worrell<\/strong> moved up one spot\u00a0going into finals\u00a0with a solid 2:09.53 prelim swim. Worrell, swimming Unnattached,\u00a0takes the top spot in tonight’s 200 fly finals, just ahead of Kentucky Aquatics’ Christina Bechtel<\/strong>, who posted a\u00a02:09.91.<\/p>\n

However, Athens Bulldog and 2015 200 Fly US National Champion\u00a0Hali Flickinger<\/strong>, who has the fastest meet entry time (2:07.59) will\u00a0be a serious contender in finals. Flickinger\u00a0swam a 2:10.46 in the preliminary session.<\/p>\n

Men’s 200 Fly<\/strong><\/p>\n

The final heat of the men’s 200 fly prelims was an unusually tight race for a morning\u00a0session. Heat six produced the top four contenders going into tonight’s finals, and all of the A-final swimmers are under the 2:01 mark.<\/p>\n

Singapore’s Zheng Wen Quah<\/strong> is the top seed with a 1:58.09, Club Wolverine’s Michael Kleuh<\/strong> is second with a 1:58.99, and rounding out the top 3 goes to Athen Bulldogs’\u00a0Gunnar Bentz<\/strong> with a 1:59.40.<\/p>\n

Women’s 50 Free<\/strong><\/p>\n

SwimMac’s Arianna Vanderpool Wallace<\/strong>, who is entered less than two-tenths (24.31) off of Cate Campbell’s US Record (24.13) maintained her top seed position going into finals with a respectable 25.03 morning swim. Athens Bulldogs’ Olivia Smoliga<\/strong> takes tonight’s lane 5 position with a 25.10, and Kelsi Worrell<\/strong> – coming off a 200 fly preliminary swim less 45 minutes before – is racing tonight in lane 3 after her 25.36 morning swim. The remainder of the A-final heat swam sub-26.<\/p>\n

Men’s 50 Free<\/strong><\/p>\n

International swimmers took the top 3 spots going into tonight’s 50 free finals. Brazilian Olympian Bruno Fratus<\/strong>, who placed fourth in the 2012 London Olympics in the 50 meter free,\u00a0maintained his top position going into the A-finals with a quick 22.35 morning swim. Canada’s Santo Condorelli<\/strong> was only 3 one-hundredths behind Fratus this morning, hitting the wall in a 22.38, placing him in lane 5 in finals tonight. Fratus’ Brazilian teammate Marcelo Chierighini\u00a0<\/strong>is contending from lane 3 tonight after a 22.59 preliminary race.<\/p>\n

There will also be a swim-off for the 8th spot between Carmel Swim Club’s Drew Kibler<\/strong> and Cardinal Aquatics’ Joao De Lucca<\/strong>, who both touched the wall in a 23.02.<\/p>\n

Women’s 100 Back<\/strong><\/p>\n

Athens Bulldogs’ Olivia Smoliga<\/strong> took the\u00a0top seed title from Claire Adams<\/strong> (Carmel Swim Club) with her minute-barrier-breaking 59.81 preliminary swim.\u00a0Smoliga cut several tenths from her entry time (1:00.06) to take the coveted top spot. University of Missouri’s Hannah Stevens<\/strong> also shaved some tenths from her 1:00.04 entry time this morning with a 59.86. This places her second going into finals. Club Wolverine’s Alexandra Deloof<\/strong> rounds out the top 3 with a 1:00.88 morning swim.\u00a0\"Screen<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 Back<\/strong><\/p>\n

The men’s 100 back is now the\u00a0second event, after the men’s 50 free, that requires a swim-off for the 8th position in finals. Aaron Greene<\/strong> and Wisconsin Aquatics’ Brett Pinfold<\/strong> will be battle for position after both posted a 56.53 in prelims.<\/p>\n

New York Athletic Club’s David Plummer<\/strong>, who placed 3rd in the 100 Back at the 2012 US Olympic Trials, finished 2.37 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor with a very fast 53.24 morning swim. He is seeded first in finals tonight. Indiana’s Robert Glover<\/strong> finished second with a 55.61, while Plummer’s teammate Arkady Vyatchanin<\/strong> qualified third in the A-finals at a 55.70.<\/p>\n

Women’s 200 Breast<\/strong><\/p>\n

Top seed and 2012 US Olympian in the 200 breast Micah Lawrence<\/strong>, currently swimming unattached, was bumped to the seventh position in tonight’s finals after swimming a 2:30.83 in prelims. Instead, Indiana’s Lily King<\/strong> takes the top position after swimming a 2:28.11 this morning. Auburn’s Annie Lazor<\/strong> is seeded second at a 2:19.60 and Saint Petersburg’s Melanie Margalis<\/strong> is third with a 2:29.69.<\/p>\n

Men’s 200 Breast<\/strong><\/p>\n

Athens Bulldogs’ Nic Fink<\/strong> bumped Kevin Cordes<\/strong> (swimming unattached) from the top position with a 2:11.23 morning swim. Cordes, who holds American Records in both the 100 and 200-meter breaststroke events, swam a 2:14.27 this morning for the second position in finals. Carlos Claverie<\/strong>, also swimming unattached, raced to the third position in finals with a 2:14.74 prelim swim.<\/p>\n

SWIM-OFF Results:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Men’s\u00a050 Free<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Joao De Lucca took the eighth position in finals from Drew Kibler in a 22.87 to 22.97 swim-off race.<\/em><\/p>\n

Women’s 400 Free<\/strong><\/p>\n

Unattached Leah Smith<\/strong> moved up a position to take the top spot in tonight’s finals. Her 4:05.21 was less than a second off her 4:04.66 entry time. Smith is seeded nearly four seconds ahead of unattached Vien Nguyen<\/strong>, who raced to a 4:09.07 this morning, and four and a half seconds ahead of Badger Swim Club’s Lindsay Vrooman<\/strong> (4:09.76).<\/p>\n

This morning, the event swam the four fastest seeded women’s and men’s heats, then alternated one heat each of women and men.<\/p>\n

Men’s 400 Free<\/strong><\/p>\n

2012 London Olympian in the 1500 free Connor Jaeger<\/strong>, representing Club Wolverine maintained his top seed position after a preliminary battle with Wisconsin Aquatics’ Matthew Hutchins.<\/strong> Jaeger posted a 3:52.55 this morning while Hutchins touched at a 3:53.16. Also touching at\u00a03:53 this morning were: Dynamo Swim Club’s Jay Litherland<\/strong> (3:53.78) and Badger Swim Club’s Zane Grothe<\/strong> (3:53.85).<\/p>\n
