2016 Longhorn Elite Invite: Day 1 Prelims – Results<\/a><\/p>\n

Women’s 100 Free<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tucson Ford’s Margo Geer<\/strong> took the top spot in this morning’s women’s 100 meter freestyle. Geer was the only woman under the 55 second mark, with her 54.93 preliminary swim. Geer is going to have a tough battle tonight for the top podium spot, as the second position went to North Baltimore’s Allison Schmitt<\/strong> (55.15) and third is Missy Franklin<\/strong> (55.19).<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 Free<\/strong><\/p>\n

North Baltimore’s Michael Phelps<\/strong>\u00a0barely squeezed\u00a0into tonight’s\u00a0100 free A-Finals in\u00a0a\u00a0tie for seventh with teammate Austin Surhoff<\/strong>.\u00a0Event though Phelps was the top seed with a 48.45 entry time, he cruised the prelims and posted a 50.84 to match Surhoff’s time.<\/p>\n

North Baltimore’s David Nolan<\/strong> is the top finals seed – and the only male under the 50 second mark – with a 49.80 preliminary swim. Jack Conger<\/strong> of Nation’s Capital is seeded second at a 50.03.<\/p>\n

Women’s 200 Breast<\/strong><\/p>\n

2015 200 Breast National Champion Laura Sogar<\/strong> slipped from the top entrant position\u00a0(2:23.54) to fifth in finals with a 2:34.26 relaxed morning swim. This left room for LSC’s Madisyn Cox<\/strong> to jump to first going into finals with an excellent morning swim of 2:29.68. Cox was the only swimmer under the 2:30 mark.<\/p>\n

Athens Bulldogs’ Annie Zhu<\/strong> (2:31.46) and TOPS’ Amanda Sanders<\/strong> (2:32.00) round out the top three seed positions in tonight’s finals.<\/p>\n

Men’s 200 Breast<\/strong><\/p>\n

North Baltimore’s Chase Kalisz<\/strong> posted a respectable morning swim time of 2:13.66 to take the top spot going into tonight’s finals session. He is entered a full second and a half ahead of second seed Will Lincon<\/strong> (swimming unattached). Lincon was the top entrant into the men’s 200 breast, but added over five seconds onto his 2:10.02 entry time. If Lincon\u00a0cuts from his 2:10.02 entry time, Eric Shanteau<\/strong>‘s 2:09.97 pool record could be in serious danger.<\/p>\n

Other names to watch tonight include Lonhorn’s Andrew Wilson<\/strong> (2:16.58), 18 year old Dynamo Swim Club’s Jackson Ford<\/strong> (2:17.64) and Irish Aquatic’s Trent Jackson<\/strong> (2:18.51). Ford and Jackson both improved their entry times by several seconds.<\/p>\n

Women’s 400 Free<\/strong><\/p>\n

National Junior Team member Cierra Runge<\/strong> (North Baltimore) posted the top time in the preliminaries of the women’s 400 free (4:10.36). There were no seed time improvements among the top 8 ladies, as one can assume they are saving their best swim for tonight’s final session.<\/p>\n

Tonight, it is expected that 2012 London\u00a0Olympian Allison Schmitt<\/strong> (North Baltimore) will improve her preliminary 4:11.63 time to take the win. However, teammates Lotte Friis<\/strong> (4:10.96) and Sierra Schmidt<\/strong> (4:12.86) will put up a fight every lap of the way.<\/p>\n

Men’s 400 Free<\/strong><\/p>\n

800 Free American Record Holder Michael McBroom<\/strong>\u00a0(The Woodlands) maintained his top position this morning (3:53.21) just hundredths ahead of Clark Smith<\/strong>‘s 3:53.23. Broom and Smith are expected to go head-to-head tonight for the victory.<\/p>\n

Yale’s Kei Hyogo<\/strong> cut over a second off his entry time (3:55.05) with a 3:53.85 that earned him the third position in finals.<\/p>\n

Women’s 100 Fly<\/strong><\/p>\n

Athens Bulldogs’ Megan Kingsley<\/strong> was the only woman to break the minute barrier in the 100 fly this morning. Her 59.91 and half-second improvement on her entry time places her first in tonight’s finals. It’s going to be a tight race in finals, however, with Longhorn Victoria Edward<\/strong> (1:00.43), Austin Swim Club’s Dakota Luther<\/strong> (1:00.62) and Longhorn Lisa Boyce<\/strong> (1:00.79) all hovering around the minute mark.<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 Fly<\/strong><\/p>\n

One-hundredth of a second separates North Baltimore teammates David Nolan<\/strong> (53.24) and Michael Phelps<\/strong> (53.25) in tonight’s 100 fly finals. Nolan touched just ahead of the most decorated olympian of all time for the top position, but Phelps is known for saving his best show for finals. Also in contention for a medal tonight are: Singapore Olympian Joseph Schooling<\/strong> (53.40) and CMSA’s Will Glass<\/strong> (53.64) and Nation’s Capital’s Jack Conger<\/strong> (53.66).<\/p>\n
