SAN ANTONIO, Texas, February 23. THE 2011 Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championship began today with Boise State winning both the 200-yard medley and 800-yard freestyle relays.<\/p>\n
Boise State's team of Denise Green, Kelly Forrester, Stevie Hughey and Kelsy Diener took first in the 200-yard medley relay with an NCAA consideration time of 1:41.36. New Mexico State was second with a time of 1:41.63, also an NCAA "B" cut while San Jose State, Idaho and Hawaii earned provisional times as well.<\/p>\n
In the only other race of the day, the Broncos took the gold medal with a win in the 800 freestyle relay. The team of Amber Boucher, Jennifer Cahill, Stevie Hughey and Stephanie North won with an NCAA consideration time of 7:12.91. Hawaii, Northern Arizona and San Jose State finished within two seconds of each other and all recorded NCAA provisional times.<\/p>\n
After one day of competition, Boise State is the leader with 80 points. Hawaii, New Mexico State and San Jose State are all tied for second place with 62 points. Northern Arizona is in fifth place with 56 points, followed by Fresno State with 52 points. Idaho is in seventh with 30 points followed by Nevada with 22 points.<\/p>\n
Action continues tomorrow at Palo Alto College Natatorium in San Antonio, Texas with the 500-yard freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, 1-meter diving and the 200 freestyle relay. Prelims begin at 11:00 a.m. and the finals start at 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
