800-meter free win with another distance triumph as she dominated the women&#8217;s 1500-meter free at the 2016 European Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Kapas clocked a winning time of 15:50.22. \u00a0That&#8217;s nearly 20 seconds better than the previous world best of 16:08.38 clocked by <strong>Mireia Belmonte<\/strong> at the Spanish Spring Nationals. \u00a0It also crushed Belmonte&#8217;s meet record of 15:57.29 set back in 2014 at the Berlin edition of the meet.<\/p>\n<p>Kapas won by nearly 10 seconds as Belmonte took second in 16:00.20 for the second spot in the world rankings.<\/p>\n<p>Spain&#8217;s <strong>Maria Vilas Vidal<\/strong> wound up taking third overall in a time of 16:01.25, now third in the world rankings.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_204110\" 100-meter fly at the 2016 European Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Cseh clocked a time of 50.86, blasting the previous mark of 51.38 set by <strong>Konrad Czerniak<\/strong> back in 2014. \u00a0Cseh, with his 200 fly win, is the first man to sweep the 100-200 fly since 1995.<\/p>\n<p>Cseh&#8217;s time also pushed him to the top of the world, clearing <strong>Li Zhuhao&#8217;s<\/strong> 51.24 from Chinese Nationals. \u00a0That&#8217;s Hungary&#8217;s eighth gold medal of the meet as well.<\/p>\n<p>Czerniak, meanwhile, placed second in 51.22 to move to second in the world rankings, while France&#8217;s <strong>Mehdy Metella<\/strong> took third overall in 51.70.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s <strong>Piero Codia<\/strong> (51.82), Italy&#8217;s <strong>Matteo Rivolta<\/strong> (51.96), Poland&#8217;s <strong>Pawel Korzeniowski<\/strong> (51.98), Ukraine&#8217;s <strong>Lyubomyr Lemeshko<\/strong> (52.25) and Denmark&#8217;s <strong>Viktor Bromer<\/strong> (53.00) made up the rest of the final <strong>Femke Heemskerk<\/strong> for the women&#8217;s 200-meter freestyle title at the 2016 European Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Pellegrini won the finale with a 1:55.93 to 1:55.97 triumph ahead of Heemskerk. \u00a0It wasn&#8217;t her fastest of the year, behind a 1:55.30 at Italian Nationals. \u00a0It also wasn&#8217;t the fastest 200 free here as <strong>Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> clocked a 1:55.30 meet record as a leadoff in the 800 free relay.<\/p>\n<p>France&#8217;s <strong>Charlotte Bonnet<\/strong> took third overall in 1:56.51, while Spain&#8217;s <strong>Melanie Costa Schmid<\/strong> picked up fourth in 1:58.08.<\/p>\n<p>Hungary&#8217;s <strong>Evelyn Verraszto<\/strong> (1:58.16), Hungary&#8217;s <strong>Ajna Kesely<\/strong> (1:58.24), Bulgaria&#8217;s the women&#8217;s 50-meter back at the 2016 European Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Halsall blew the roof off the hometown crowd with a 27.57 for the win. \u00a0That swim cleared <strong>Aliaksandra Herasimenia&#8217;s<\/strong> meet record of 27.64 from the 2010 edition in Budapest. \u00a0It also moved her to third in the world this year behind Herasimenia (27.40) and <strong>Minna Atherton<\/strong> (27.49).<\/p>\n<p>Denmark&#8217;s <strong>Mie Nielsen<\/strong> placed second in 27.77 to move to fifth in the world, while Great Britain&#8217;s <strong>Georgia Davies<\/strong> captured third overall in 27.87 to make the top 10 in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Greece&#8217;s<strong> Theodora Drakou<\/strong> (28.00), The Netherlands&#8217; <strong>Maaike De Waard<\/strong> (28.14), Finland&#8217;s <strong>Mimosa Jallow<\/strong> (28.15), Turkey&#8217;s <strong>Ekaterina Avramova<\/strong> (28.60) and Ukraine&#8217;s <strong>Daryna Zevina<\/strong> (28.61) also competed for the 200-meter back at the 2016 European Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Kawecki clocked a 1:55.98 for the win, a bit off his meet mark of 1:55.28 from a 2012 swim in Debrecen.\u00a0Kawecki moved up to fifth in the world rankings with the swim.<\/p>\n<p>Israel&#8217;s <strong>Yakov Toumarkin<\/strong> placed second in the finale with a time of 1:56.97, while Lithuania&#8217;s <strong>Danas Rapsys<\/strong> took third in 1:57.22.<\/p>\n<p>Hungary&#8217;s <strong>Gabor Balog<\/strong> (1:58.66), Greece&#8217;s <strong>Apostolos Christou<\/strong> (1:58.87), Russia&#8217;s <strong>Grigory Tarasevich<\/strong> (1:59.31), Italy&#8217;s <strong>Christopher Ciccarese<\/strong> (1:59.45) and Italy&#8217;s<strong> Luca Mencarini<\/strong> (2:02.04) also swam in the finale.<\/p>\n<div with another 26.66 in the men&#8217;s 50-meter breast finals at the 2016 European Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty proved the 26.66 wasn&#8217;t a fluke yesterday with all of the timing system issues surrounding his swim, as he matched that time clean tonight for the title.<\/p>\n<p>Slovenia&#8217;s <strong>Peter John Stevens<\/strong> claimed silver with a time of 27.09 to move to third in the world behind <strong>Cameron van der Burgh<\/strong> (27.08).<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s <strong>Ross Murdoch<\/strong> placed third in 27.31, while Lithuania&#8217;s Giedrius Titenis took fourth with a 27.46.<\/p>\n<p>Sweden&#8217;s <strong>Johannes Skagius<\/strong> (27.54), Slovenia&#8217;s <strong>Damir Dugonjic<\/strong> (27.56), Serbia&#8217;s <strong>Caba Siladji<\/strong> (27.72) and 800-meter free relay at the 2016 European Championships.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dion Dreesens<\/strong> (1:47.92), <strong>Maarten Brzoskowski<\/strong> (1:46.55), <strong>Kyle Stolk<\/strong> (1:47.88) and<strong> Sebastiaan Verschuren<\/strong> (1:45.47) cranked out the victory in 7:07.82.<\/p>\n<p>Belgium&#8217;s <strong>Louis Croenen<\/strong> (1:48.47), <strong>Glenn Surgeloose<\/strong> (1:46.12), <strong>Dieter Dekoninck<\/strong> (1:47.70) and <strong>Pieter Timmers<\/strong> (1:45.99) finished second overall in a time of 7:08.28.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s <strong>Mitch D&#8217;Arrigo<\/strong> (1:47.57), <strong>Filippo Magnini<\/strong> (1:47.82), <strong>Luca Dotto<\/strong> (1:47.52) and <strong>Gabriele Detti<\/strong> (1:45.39) placed third in earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Finland&#8217;s<strong> Jenna Laukkanen<\/strong> qualified second in 30.81 to move to eighth in the world, while Iceland&#8217;s <strong>Hilda Luthersdottir<\/strong> picked up the third seed in 30.83 for ninth in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine&#8217;s <strong>Mariya Liver<\/strong> (30.90), Sweden&#8217;s <strong>Sophie Hansson<\/strong> (30.95), Finland&#8217;s Britain&#8217;s <strong>Ben Proud<\/strong> qualified second in 21.84, off his third-ranked season best of 21.65. \u00a0Meanwhile, Greece&#8217;s <strong>Kristian Gkolomeev<\/strong> grabbed third overall in 21.89 to clear his ninth-ranked 21.90 from a meet in Atlanta.<\/p>\n<p>Finland&#8217;s <strong>Ari-Pekka Liukkonen<\/strong> (21.92), Ukraine&#8217;s <strong>Andriy Govorov<\/strong> <strong>Liliana Szilagyi<\/strong> qualified second overall in 2:08.63 with Germany&#8217;s <strong>Franziska Hentke<\/strong> posting a third-seeded 2:08.74. \u00a0Hentke is the second-fastest swimmer in the world this year with a 2:05.77 from German Nationals, so look for her to turn up the heat in finals.<\/p>\n<p>Spain&#8217;s<strong> Judit Ignacio Sorribes<\/strong> took fourth in women&#8217;s 50-meter free semis after winning the 50 back shortly before at the 2016 European Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Having already won the 50 back earlier in the evening, Halsall returned with a sizzling 24.21 for the top seed in finals. \u00a0That&#8217;s the third-best in the world behind only <strong>Cate Campbell<\/strong> (23.84) and <strong>Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> (24.17).<\/p>\n<p>The Netherlands&#8217; <strong>Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong> (24.37) and France&#8217;s <strong>Anna Santamans<\/strong> (24.83) qualified second and third, while Denmark&#8217;s <strong>Jeanette Ottesen<\/strong> took fourth overall in 24.93.<\/p>\n<p>Belarus&#8217; <strong>Yuliya Khitraya<\/strong> (25.05), Sweden&#8217;s <strong>Therese Alshammar<\/strong> (25.05), Greece&#8217;s
