BATON ROUGE \u2013 LSU swimming coach Dave Geyer<\/strong> announced the signing of international standouts Karl Luht<\/strong> and Lewis Clough<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the addition of Karl and Lewis completes a strong recruiting class for us,\u201d Geyer said. \u201cIt isn\u2019t a big class in numbers, but the ability to add some young depth that we will be losing in a year or two is pivotal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Luht is a part of the Garant Swim Club in Tallinn, Estonia. The 2016 European Championship team member holds short course meter best times of 23.41 in the 50 free, 53.37 in the 100 back and 56.17 in the 100 fly.<\/p>\n

Clough has competed on the international level the past two years for England as a member of the Junior European team in 2016 and the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2015. Competing recently at the European Long Course Championships, Luht posted a lifetime best of 56.76 in the preliminary rounds of the 100 back.<\/p>\n

The Manchester native swims for City of Salford Swimming Club and was named the Lancashire swimmer of the Year in 2015. Clough owns top times of 23.41 in the 50 free, 49.24 in the 100 free, 1:48.29 in the 200 free and 53.36 in the 100 fly in short course meters. Clough has also clocked long course meter times of 50.98 in the 100 free and 1:50.78 in the 200 free.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I like most about Karl and Lewis is they are both willing to swim up a little into the 200 free,\u201d Geyer added. \u201cBoth of them have also had outstanding relay splits for their programs or countries in competition, which is a huge plus when you can count on someone to step up and swim fast in relays.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you throw Sven<\/strong> (Saemundsson<\/strong>) from our fall signing and Juan<\/strong> (Celaya-Hernandez<\/strong>) on the boards into this mix I think you have four young men that have the desire to compete at the international level. That should lead to an easy transition going into NCAA Championships.\u201d<\/p>\n
