Proud stopped the clock at a 23.34 for the bronze.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Piero Codia<\/strong> took fourth overall with a 23.46, while fifth fell to Belarus&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Yauhen Tsurkin<\/strong> and his time of 23.67.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Frederick Bousquet<\/strong> of France (23.71),\u00a0The Netherlands&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Joeri Verlinden<\/strong> (23.82) and Israel&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Merion Amir Cheruti\u00a0<\/strong>(23.92) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 100 Free Semi-finals:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Femke Heemskerk<\/strong> of The Netherlands posted the fastest time of the evening in semi-finals of the women&#8217;s 100 free. Heemskerk stopped the clock at a 54.15 to claim the top seed for tomorrow&#8217;s final. Her fastest time for 2016 sits at a 53.81 from the European Championships.<\/p>\n<p>France&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Charlotte Bonnet\u00a0<\/strong>picked up the second place seed with a finish of 54.29. That time sits less than a second off her 2016 best of 53.93 from the French Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Heemskerk&#8217;s teammate\u00a0 <strong>ranomi kromowidjojo\u00a0<\/strong> grabbed the third place seed with a time of 54.44. Kromowidjojo HAS BEEN as fast as a 53.21 in 2016, posting That ranked fifth time at the Swim Cup Eindhoven.<\/p>\n<p>Sweden&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> picked up fourth with a time of 54.55, while Israel&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andrea Murez\u00a0<\/strong>settled for a close fifth with a 54.57.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mie Nielsen<\/strong> of Denmark (54.63),\u00a0<strong>Nina Rangelova<\/strong> of Bulgaria (54.76) and\u00a0<strong>Silvia Di Pietro<\/strong> of Italy (54.77) completed the top eight for tomorrow&#8217;s final.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 100 Back Final:<\/h3>\n<p>The men&#8217;s 100 back final featured a close race to the finish. At the touch it was France&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Camille Lacourt<\/strong> who touched first, stopping the clock at a 53.79. Lacourt&#8217;s best for 2016 sits at a 52.97 from the French Championships resting him at third in the world rankings.<\/p>\n<p>Finishing close behind Lacourt was Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Grigory Tarasevich<\/strong> with a final time of 53.89 to be the only other athlete under the 54-second mark. Tarasevich currently occupies fifth in the world rankings for 2016 after posting a 53.03 at the Russian Championships earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>The bronze medal was split between Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Simone Sabbioni<\/strong> and Greece&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Apostolos Christou<\/strong>. The pair simultaneously stopped the clock at a 54.19. Both occupy spots in the top 20 world rankings for 2016 with Sabbioni at tenth (53.34) and Christou at twelfth (53.36).<\/p>\n<p>Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Gabor Balog<\/strong> finished fifth overall with a time of 54.35, just ahead of another tie. Romania&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Robert Glinta<\/strong> and Israel&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Yakov Yan Toumarkin<\/strong> delivered matching times of 54.36.<\/p>\n<p>Rounding out the top eight was\u00a0<strong>Shane Ryan<\/strong> of Ireland at 54.49.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 50 Fly Final:<\/h3>\n<p>Just one heat separated Sweden&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sarah Sjostrom&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>semi-final swim of the 100 free from finals of the women&#8217;s 50-meter fly, but that didn&#8217;t seem to phase the butterfly superstar. Sjostrom took charge early in the race and never looked back, clocking a 2016 best of 24.99. That time makes Sjostrom the only female to post a sub-25 second swim in the 50 fly for this year and improves upon her first place ranking of 25.15 from the Swedish Open.<\/p>\n<p>Denmark&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jeanette Ottesen<\/strong> cranked out a 25.44 to win the silver medal and improve upon her 2016 best of 25.70. Ottesen&#8217;s time moves her from fourth to third in the world rankings.<\/p>\n<p>Finishing close behind was\u00a0<strong>Francesca Halsall<\/strong> of Great Britain with a time of 25.48. Halsall&#8217;s 2016 best sits at a 25.35 from earlier in the meet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong> turned in a fourth place finish of 25.82, while Sweden&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Therese Alshammar<\/strong> picked up fifth with a time of 26.01.<\/p>\n<p>France&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Melanie Henique<\/strong> grabbed sixth with a 26.12, just ahead of The Netherlands&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Maaike De Waard&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>26.18.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anna Dowgiert<\/strong>\u00a0of Poland was eighth with a 26.22.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 100 Breast Final:<\/h3>\n<p>The final of the men&#8217;s 100 breaststroke was led by a strong British contingent as\u00a0<strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Ross Murdoch<\/strong> delivered a 1-2 finish. Peaty surged to first and a new championship record with a finish of 58.36. That time lowers his 2016 world best of 58.41 at the British Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Murdoch stopped the clock at a 59.73 to be the only other athlete under the one-minute mark, finishing just shy of his third ranked 2016 best of 59.31 from the British Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Third was picked up by Lithuania&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Giedrius Titenis<\/strong> and his final time of 1:00.10, while fourth fell to Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andrea Toniato<\/strong> (1:00.42).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Panagiotis Samilidis<\/strong> of Greece picked up fifth with a time of 1:00.66 and was closely followed by Slovenia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Damir Dugonjic&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>1:00.75.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anton Sveinn McKee<\/strong> of Iceland (1:01.29) and\u00a0<strong>Yannick Kaeser<\/strong> of Switzerland (1:01.36) were seventh and eighth respectively.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 100 Breast Semi-finals:<\/h3>\n<p>Lithuania&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ruta Meilutyte<\/strong> followed\u00a0<strong>Adam Peaty&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=203542&amp;action=edit\" target=\"_blank\">new meet record<\/a>\u00a0in the men&#8217;s 100 breast with a new meet record of her own in semi-finals of the 100 breast. The world record holder for this event lowered the former meet record of 1:06.23 down to a 1:06.16 and that&#8217;s not even the fastest she&#8217;s been for 2016! Meilutyte sits at third in the world rankings for 2016 with a time of 1:05.82 from the Edinburgh International meet.<\/p>\n<p>Iceland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Hrafnhildu Luthersdottir<\/strong> grabbed the second place seed for tomorrow&#8217;s finals with a time of 1:07.28, just narrowly missing a chance to enter the top 20 world rankings for 2016.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Martina Carraro<\/strong> of Italy picked up the third place seed with a final 1:07.53, and was followed into the wall by Sweden&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sophie Hansson<\/strong> (1:07.59).<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Chloe Tutton<\/strong> took fifth in semis with a time of 1:07.69, while sixth was claimed by the young\u00a0<strong>Viktoria Zeynep Gunes<\/strong> of Turkey (1:07.81).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Molly Renshaw<\/strong> of Great Britain<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(1:07.82) and\u00a0<strong>Fiona Doyle<\/strong> of Ireland\u00a0(1:07.99) complete tomorrow&#8217;s final.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 IM Semi-finals:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Andreas Vazaios<\/strong> of Greece clocked the top time in semi-finals of the men&#8217;s 200 IM, stopping the clock at a 1:58.47. Vazaios&#8217; time enters him into the top 20 world rankings for 2016 at thirteenth.<\/p>\n<p>Posting the only other sub-2 minute swim was Portugal&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alexis Manacas Santos<\/strong>. Santos delivered a final time of 1:59.93 to return as the second place seed in tomorrow&#8217;s final.<\/p>\n<p>The field narrowed from there with the third through eighth place qualifiers posting times .79 seconds apart.\u00a0<strong>Diogo Filipe Carvalho<\/strong> of Portugal grabbed the third place seed with a 2:00.07.<\/p>\n<p>Israel&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Gal Nevo<\/strong> finished fourth overall with a 2:00.32, while fifth fell to\u00a0<strong>Federico Turrini<\/strong> of Italy.<\/p>\n<p>The sixth place seed was picked up by Luxembourg&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Raphael Stacchiotti<\/strong> and his time of (2:00.72).<\/p>\n<p>The British duo of\u00a0<strong>Dan Wallace<\/strong> (2:00.74) and\u00a0<strong>Max Litchfield<\/strong> (2:00.86) rounded out the qualifiers.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 Back Final:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> of Hungary grabbed a decisive lead early in the final of the women&#8217;s 200 back and never looked back. The Iron Lady powered to a first place finish of 2:07.01 bettering upon her 2016 best of 2:07.36 from the Golden Tour held in Marseille, France.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Daryna Zevina<\/strong> kept close to Hosszu, never letting her more than half a body length ahead of her. Zevina stopped the clock at a final 2:07.48 to shift her from eleventh in the world rankings to seventh.<\/p>\n<p>Croatia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Matea Samardzic<\/strong> grabbed the bronze medal with a final time of 2:09.24, while fourth place went to Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kata Burian<\/strong> (2:10.17).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Simona Baumrtova<\/strong> of the Czech Republic earned fifth with a time of 2:10.57, just ahead of Iceland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Eyglo Osk Gustafsdottir&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>2:11.03.<\/p>\n<p>Turkey&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zulal Zeren<\/strong> (2:11.91) and Poland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alicja Tchorz<\/strong> (2:13.48) were seventh and eighth respectively.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 Free Semi-finals:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Sebastiaan Verschuren<\/strong> of The Netherlands turned in the top time in semi-finals of the men&#8217;s 200 free, stopping the clock at a 1:45.87. Verschuren&#8217;s time vaults him into the world rankings for 2016, landing at sixth.<\/p>\n<p>Serbia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Velimir Stjepanovic<\/strong> grabbed the second place seed with a final time of 1:46.04, bettering upon his 2016 best of 1:46.10 from the Euro Meet in Luxembourg.<\/p>\n<p>Third was picked up by\u00a0<strong>James Guy<\/strong> of Great Britain, who clocked a final 1:46.59. Guy&#8217;s best time for 2016 sits at a 1:45.19 from the British Championships, good for first in the world rankings.<\/p>\n<p>Belgium&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Glenn Surgeloose<\/strong> finished fourth in semis with a time of 1:46.91, just ahead of Poland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kacper Majchrzak&#8217;s<\/strong> 1:46.95.<\/p>\n<p>The sixth place seed fell to Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andrea Mitchell D&#8217;Arrigo<\/strong> and his time of 1:47.56, while Finald&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Matias Koski<\/strong> finished seventh in semis with a 1:47.58.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maarten Brzoskowski<\/strong> of The Netherlands earned the final spot in tomorrow&#8217;s finals with a 1:47.62.<\/p>\n<h3>Mixed 400 Medley Relay Final:<\/h3>\n<p>The mixed 400 medley relay highlighted swift racing as Great Britain and Italy continually battled for first throughout the race. Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Simone Sabbioni <\/strong>(54.01)<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed a decisive lead early on as the backstroke leg, but\u00a0<strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong>\u00a0(58.84) surged Great Britain to the lead during the breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Siobhan-Marie O&#8217;Connor<\/strong>\u00a0(57.69) continued that lead throughout the fly, while\u00a0<strong>Francesca Halsall <\/strong>(53.67)\u00a0held off Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Federica Pellegrini<\/strong>\u00a0(53.20) to claim the win for Great Britain and stop the clock at a 3:44.56.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Pellegrini&#8217;s strong anchor where she decisively closed the gap between Italy and Great Britain, Italy settled for second and a final time of 3:45.74.<\/p>\n<p>Hungary&#8217;s team of\u00a0<strong>Gabor Balog<\/strong>\u00a0(54.51),<strong> Gabor Financsek<\/strong>\u00a0(1:01.19),<strong> Evelyn Verraszto<\/strong> (59.37) and\u00a0<strong>Zsuzsanna Jakabos<\/strong>\u00a0(54.43) claimed third overall with a time of 3:49.50.<\/p>\n<p>Sweden (3:29.97), Turkey (3:56.09), and Moldova (4:06.69) finished fourth through sixth respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Norway suffered a disqualification.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Everything you need to follow along with finals of day two of the 2016 European Championships.
