ATLANTA, Georgia, February 17. MARIST took first place at the Georgia 1-4A High School State Swimming and Diving Championships. The boys scored 293.5 points, while the girls scored 333 points. It was a close meet on the girl's side between St. Pius X (203) and Starr's Mill (201). Westminster scored 274.5 points for second place, while Lakeside Evans finished third (154) for the boys. <\/p>\n
Boys Individual Results<\/b>
\nWill Freeman, a junior at Greater Atlanta Christian, shot down the national independent high school record in the 500-yard free.<\/p>\n
Freeman checked in with a swift time of 4:19.32. That performance wiped out the 4:19.54 set by Fran Crippen of Germantown Academy back in 2002. The oldest high school record on the books still stands as the overall standard as Jeff Kostoff of Upland High in Calif., charted a 4:16.39 in the 500-yard free on May 14, 1983. <\/p>\n
Lakeside, Evans opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay. Charlie Johnson, Eric Chiu, Jimmy Meixiong, and Taylor Capers clocked a 1:37.81. <\/p>\n
Chiu had a first-place finishes in the 100 freestyle (45.55) and the 100 backstroke (51.21).<\/p>\n
Stevie Vines of Westminster secured a first-place finish in the diving competition with a score of 600.10. Peter Hillyer (St. Pius X) took second (471.95) while Zach Hernandez (Wesleyan) placed third (446.60).<\/p>\n
The foursome of Michael Bryant, John Locker, Ross Bundschuh, and Jake Stephens (Marist) won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:27.04.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Jack Lane had individual wins in the 200 freestyle (1:38.98) and the 100 butterfly (49.25).<\/p>\n
Bundschuh, Karl Staber, William Nemetz, and Stephens took first place in the 400 freestyle relay (3:13.33) to close the meet.<\/p>\n
Girls Individual Results<\/b>
\nLauren Scott, Kristen Bates, Morgan Presley, and Katie Haycraft of Starr's Mill took first in the 200 medley relay (1:45.63). Scott also won the 50 freestyle (23.76) and 100 butterfly (55.39).<\/p>\n
Freshman Lauren Hall of Wesleyan took first place in the diving competition (511.80). Emily Kaplan and Hannah McElhannon followed with scores of 466.30 and 439.15 respectively.<\/p>\n
Marist's Elizabeth Pitts, Meredith Nakano, Callie Northrop, and Lauren Pfohl clocked a 1:37.15 with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay.<\/p>\n
Katherine Huff (Lakeside, Evans) had dual individual wins in the 100 freestyle (51.49) and the 100 backstroke (56.25).<\/p>\n
