Men’s 400 free<\/strong><\/p>\n

Italy’s Gabriele Detti<\/strong> took down the meet record in the men’s 400-meter free at the 2016 European Championships.<\/p>\n

Detti hit the wall in a time of 3:44.01, breaking the 3:45.10 set by Yury Prilukov<\/strong> back in 2008 at the Eindhoven edition of the meet.<\/p>\n

Detti has been faster this year, however, with a third-ranked time of 3:43.97.<\/p>\n

James Guy<\/strong>, who is the top-ranked swimmer here with a second-ranked 3:43.84 from British Nationals, missed out on finals during prelims as he’s focused on the Olympics this year.<\/p>\n

Norway’s Henrik Christiansen<\/strong> took second overall in a time of 3:46.49 with Peter Bernek<\/strong> earning third overall with a 3:46.81 to claim the final medal. \u00a0Austria’s Felix Auboeck<\/strong> just missed the podium with a fourth-place 3:46.88.<\/p>\n

Women’s 400 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> was out under world-record pace at the 300 before fading badly to settle for a meet record in the women’s 400-meter IM at the 2016 European Championships.<\/p>\n

Hosszu split a 3:28.84 at the 300-meter mark, under Ye Shiwen’s<\/strong> 3:29.75 from 2012. \u00a0But, Hosszu did not have the same freestyle speed as she faded with a 4:30.90 for the win.<\/p>\n

That’s a full second off her world-best time of 4:29.89, but still a smidge better than her meet record of 4:30.97 from prelims.<\/p>\n

Great Britain’s Hannah Miley<\/strong>, already the second-ranked swimmer in the world with a 4:33.40 from British Nationals, took second tonight in 4:35.27.<\/p>\n

Hungary’s Zsuzsanna Jakabos<\/strong> completed the rest of the podium with a third-place time of 4:38.39.<\/p>\n

Great Britain’s Aimee Willmott<\/strong> (4:40.08), Italy’s Carlotta Toni<\/strong> (4:40.76), Italy’s Luisa Trombetti<\/strong> (4:41.03), Czech’s Barbora Zavadova<\/strong> (4:43.11) and Slovenia’s Anja Klinar<\/strong> (4:43.42) also competed in the finale.<\/p>\n

Women’s 400 free relay<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Netherlands easily won the women’s 400-meter free relay at the 2016 European Championships.<\/p>\n

Maud van der Meer<\/strong> (54.68), Femke Heemskerk<\/strong> (52.80), Marrit Steenbergen<\/strong> (53.82) and Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong> (52.50) dominated the finale in a time of 3:33.80.<\/p>\n

Italy’s Silvia Di Pietro<\/strong> (55.00), Erika Ferraioli<\/strong> (54.18), Aglaia Pezzato<\/strong> (55.04) and Federica Pellegrini<\/strong> (53.46) finished second in 3:37.68.<\/p>\n

Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> (53.48), Ida Marko-Varga<\/strong> (54.90), Ida Lindborg<\/strong> (54.45) and Louise Hansson<\/strong> (55.01) took third in 3:37.84.<\/p>\n

France emerged victorious from an exciting men’s 400-meter free relay at the 2016 European Championships.<\/p>\n

William Meynard<\/strong> (49.57), Florent Manaudou<\/strong> (47.64), Fabien Gilot<\/strong> (48.26) and Clement Mignon<\/strong> (48.01) collected the gold medal in 3:13.48.<\/p>\n

Italy’s Luca Dotto<\/strong> (48.03), Luca Leonardi<\/strong> (48.47), Jonathan Boffa<\/strong> (49.21) and Filippo Magnini<\/strong> (48.58) touched out Belgium’s Glenn Surgeloose<\/strong> (48.75), Jasper Aerents<\/strong> (49.31), Dieter Dekoninck<\/strong> (48.87) and Pieter Timmers<\/strong> (47.37) by the slimmest of margins, 3:14.29 to 3:14.30.<\/p>\n

Women’s 50 fly<\/strong><\/p>\n

Great Britain’s Fran Halsall<\/strong> put up the top time in semis with a second-ranked time in the women’s 50-meter fly at the 2016 European Championships.<\/p>\n

Halsall ripped off a top time of 25.35 to lead qualifying, bettering her previously second-ranked season best of 25.60 from the Golden Tour.<\/p>\n

Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong>, the world leader with a 25.15 from the Swedish Open this year as well as world record holder with a 24.43 in 2014, cruised into second with a 25.42.<\/p>\n

The Netherlands’ Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong> (25.63), Denmark’s Jeanette Ottesen<\/strong> (25.70), Sweden’s Therese Alshammar<\/strong> (25.98), The Netherlands’ Maaike De Waard<\/strong> (26.05), Poland’s Anna Dowgiert<\/strong> (26.10) and France’s Melanie Henique<\/strong> (26.14) also made the final.<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 back<\/strong><\/p>\n

Greece’s Apostolos Christou<\/strong> led the way in the men’s 100-meter back at the 2016 European Championships.<\/p>\n

Christou clocked in with a time of 53.36 to move up to 12th in the world rankings this year.<\/p>\n

Grigory Tarasevich<\/strong> of Russia posted a 53.70 for the second seed. \u00a0Tarasevich is ranked fifth in the world with a 53.03 from Russian Nationals.<\/p>\n

Italy’s Simone Sabbioni<\/strong> qualified third with a time of 53.86, off his 10th-ranked 53.34 from the Italian Championships.<\/p>\n

France’s Camille Lacourt<\/strong> clocked in fourth with a 54.09, well back of his third-ranked 52.97 from the French Championships.<\/p>\n

Romania’s Robert Glinta<\/strong> (54.14), Israel’s Yakov Toumarkin<\/strong> (54.18), Hungary’s Gabor Balog<\/strong> (54.20) and Ireland’s Shane Ryan<\/strong> (54.39) also made the finals.<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 breast<\/strong><\/p>\n

Great Britain’s Adam Peaty<\/strong> just missed his meet record during semis of the men’s 100-meter breast at the 2016 European Championships.<\/p>\n

Peaty stopped the clock in a time of 58.74, just missing his 58.68 from the 2014 Berlin stop of the meet.<\/p>\n

Peaty’s been faster than both swims this year with a top-ranked 58.41 from the British Nationals.<\/p>\n

Teammate Ross Murdoch<\/strong> took second in semis with a 59.67, off his third-ranked season best of 59.31 from British Nationals as well.<\/p>\n

Lithuania’s Giedrius Titenis<\/strong> (59.99), Slovenia’s Damir Dugonjic<\/strong> (1:00.06), Italy’s Andrea Toniato<\/strong> (1:00.48), Greece’s Panagiotis Samilidis<\/strong> (1:00.59), Iceland’s Anton McKee<\/strong> (1:00.98) and Switzerland’s Yannick Kaeser<\/strong> (1:01.13) also earned spots in the finale.<\/p>\n

Ukraine’s Daryna Zevina<\/strong> paced semis in the women’s 200-meter back at the 2016 European Championships.<\/p>\n

Zevina claimed the top seed heading into finals in a time of 2:08.66. \u00a0That put her 11th in the world rankings with the swim.<\/p>\n

Croatia’s Matea Samardzic<\/strong> qualified second with a time of 2:09.87, while Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> backed up her 400 IM meet record with a third-seeded 2:09.98 in semis of the 200 back.<\/p>\n

Hungary’s Kata Burian<\/strong> (2:10.83), Iceland’s Eyglo Gustafsdottir<\/strong> (2:10.87), Czech’s Simona Baumrtova<\/strong> (2:11.26), Poland’s Alicja Tchorz<\/strong> (2:11.63) and Turkey’s Zeren Zulal<\/strong> (2:11.71) also earned spots in finals.<\/p>\n

Men’s 50 fly<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ukraine’s Andrey Govorov<\/strong> moved up to fourth\u00a0all time in the men’s 50-meter fly with a meet record time at the 2016 European Championships.<\/p>\n

Govorov, who already clocked a 23.00 this morning, unleashed a 22.73 tonight during semis. \u00a0 That lowered his own meet record of 22.87 set at the 2014 Berlin event.<\/p>\n

It also moved him to fourth\u00a0all time in the event’s history. \u00a0Rafael Munoz<\/strong> (22.43), Roland Schoeman<\/strong> (22.57), Milorad Cavic<\/strong> (22.67) and Matt Targett<\/strong> (22.73) are the other members of the top five.<\/p>\n

Notably, Govorov’s time also lowered the textile best of 22.76 set by Cesar Cielo<\/strong>\u00a0in 2012.<\/p>\n

Great Britain’s Ben Proud<\/strong> (23.42), Italy’s Piero Codia<\/strong> (23.55), Hungary’s Laszlo Cseh<\/strong> (23.57), The Netherlands’ Joeri Verlinden<\/strong> (23.67), France’s Fred Bousquet<\/strong> (23.69), Israel’s Meiron Cheruti<\/strong> (23.70) and Belarus’ Yauhen Tsurkin<\/strong> (23.72) also made the finale.<\/p>\n
