He topped qualifying in a time of 3:46.72 to move to 10th in the world rankings.<\/p>\n<p>Hungary&#8217;s <strong>Peter Bernek<\/strong> raced his way to second this morning with a 3:47.05, while Italy&#8217;s <strong>Gabriele Detti<\/strong> took third in 3:47.18. \u00a0Detti is ranked third in the world with a 3:43.97.<\/p>\n<p>In a stunner,<strong> James Guy<\/strong> of Great Britain, the second-ranked swimmer in the world with a 3:43.84 from British Championships, finished 27th overall in 3:52.91 to miss finals completely.<\/p>\n<p>The Netherlands&#8217; <strong>Maarten Brzoskowski<\/strong> (4:37.63), Austria&#8217;s <strong>Felix Auboeck<\/strong> (3:47.92), Norway&#8217;s <strong>Henrik Christiansen<\/strong> (3:48.33), Great Britain&#8217;s <strong>Stephen Sjostrom<\/strong>, the world record holder with a 24.43 to her credit from 2014, put herself in a good spot heading into semis with a 25.59 this morning. \u00a0Sjostrom is the only person that&#8217;s been faster this year with a 25.15 from the Swedish Open.<\/p>\n<p>Denmark&#8217;s <strong>Jeanette Ottesen<\/strong> matched her fourth-ranked season best of 25.80 for the second seed, while The Netherlands&#8217; <strong>Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong> snared third in 25.80 as well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fran Halsall<\/strong> (26.01), <strong>Therese Alshammar<\/strong> (26.05),<strong> Maaike De Waard<\/strong> (26.32), <strong>Nastja Govejsek <\/strong>(26.36) and <strong>Melanie Henique<\/strong> (26.38) also made the top eight of the top 16 semifinalists.<\/p>\n<p>All qualifiers and alternates are listed below. \u00a0<strong>Kim Busch<\/strong> of The Netherlands, however, missed out on semis due to the two-per-country rule. \u00a0With Kromowidjojo and De Waard already rankings.<\/p>\n<p>Greece&#8217;s <strong>Apostolos Christou<\/strong> hit the wall second overall in 53.77 with Ireland&#8217;s <strong>Shane Ryan<\/strong> taking the Irish national record with a third-placed 54.21 out of prelims.<\/p>\n<p>Israel&#8217;s <strong>Yakov Toumarkin<\/strong> (54.22), Russia&#8217;s <strong>Grigory Tarasevich<\/strong> (54.31), Italy&#8217;s <strong>Simone Sabbioni<\/strong> (54.54), Poland&#8217;s <strong>Radoslaw Kawecki<\/strong> (54.63) and Israel&#8217;s <strong>Guy Barnea<\/strong> (54.81) claimed the rest of the top 8 spots heading into semis.<\/p>\n<p>Israel&#8217;s depth in the event was on display with two potential top 16 swimmers missing out on second swims due to the two-per country rule. \u00a0<strong>David Gamburg<\/strong> (55.14) and <strong>Jonatan Kopelev<\/strong> (55.15) finished 14th and 16th this morning, but were booted from semis.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Hungary&#8217;s<strong> David Foldhazi<\/strong> and her own meet record in the women&#8217;s 400-meter IM at the 2016 European Championships during prelims.<\/p>\n<p>Hosszu clocked a top time of 4:30.97 in prelims, breaking her old mark of 4:31.03 set in Berlin in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s not Hosszu&#8217;s best this year, she&#8217;s already clocked a European record 4:29.89 on the French Golden Tour, and will be looking to challenge <strong>Ye Shiwen&#8217;s<\/strong> world record of 4:28.43 during finals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Aimee Willmott<\/strong> qualified second in 4:37.49, while <strong>Hannah Miley<\/strong> took third in 4:38.91 for Great Britain as well.<\/p>\n<p>Hungary&#8217;s <strong>Zsuzsanna Jakabos<\/strong> (4:39.10), Italy&#8217;s <strong>Carlotta Toni<\/strong> (4:39.60), Slovenia&#8217;s <strong>Anja Klinar<\/strong> 100-meter breast.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty topped qualifying with a time of 58.94, just off his meet record of 58.68 from the 2014 edition of the meet.
