RALEIGH, North Carolina, February 4. NC State men's and women's swimming and diving fell to North Carolina on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at Casey Natatorium besides posting four new top-times on the season. The men lost 169-129, while the women fell 186-111.<\/p>\n
The Wolfpack men now own a 5-3 (3-3 ACC) record, as the women move 5-5
\n(2-5 ACC). Both Tar Heel squads climb to 6-3 (4-1 ACC).<\/p>\n
Patrice Dason offered the second-best time in school history, tops on the season, in winning the 100 butterfly with a 55.53. Dason's 23.99, good for second overall, in the 50 freestyle also marks the third fastest time in that event all season by a Wolfpack swimmer. Anna Linkenauger won the 400 IM with a 4:23.35, best on the team this year, while her third-place mark of 1:53.65 in the 200 freestyle is second best. Kristin Davies also set a season-high for the Pack in the 3-meter dive with a 352.65.<\/p>\n
Erica Smith grabbed first in the 100 backstroke with a 57.23, while Maggie McEnerney (10:30.92) and Taryn Shelley (10:35.75) placed one and two in the 1000 freestyle. The Pack put up four other second-place finishes in individual events, including Davies' (252.23) in the 1-meter dive, Ashley Richter (52.44) in the 100 freestyle, Jen Kopenitz
\n(2:05.88) in the 200 backstroke and Linkenauger (2:21.76) in the 200 breaststroke. State also got second-place offerings in the 200-medley relay (Smith, Linkenauger, Dason, Richter \u2013 1:44.50) and 200 freestyle relay (Meg Thompson, Lucy Lindsey, Richter, Dason \u2013 1:36.62).<\/p>\n
The men's team grabbed six individual wins, including two each from Andrew Lester and Stephen Mellor. Lester's 9:21.27 in the 1000 freestyle is the top mark on the squad this season, while Nick Brittis' 9:56.26 is the third-best. Lester also claimed the 500 freestyle on a 4:33.16, as Mellor swiped both the 100 backstroke (50.46) and 200 backstroke (1:48.78). Conor Brennan (21.17) and Austin Hampton (371.10) each grabbed their own wins in the 50 freestyle and 3-meter dive, respectively.<\/p>\n
Mason McGee took second in both the 200 freestyle (1:40.36) and 100 freestyle (46.65), while Dan Forsythe placed second in the 100 breaststroke (57.29) and 200 breaststroke (2:05.73). After taking the 3-meter dive, Hampton grabbed second in the 1-meter outing with a 285.45.<\/p>\n
State grabbed victories in both the 200-medley relay (Mellor, Forsythe, Taylor Goodwin, Brennan \u2013 1:32.67) and the 200 freestyle relay (McGee, Gaites Brown, Goodwin, Brennan \u2013 1:23.20). That mark in the 200 freestyle relay is the best this season on the team.<\/p>\n
