While this will be his first time as the head coach, Titley is no stranger to the Olympic Games having been a part of Britain&#8217;s Olympic coaching staff in 2004, 2008, and 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Titley was an instrumental part of leading Canada&#8217;s swimmers through the 2015 Pan American Games last summer and now boasts a talented team of swimmers ranging from the age of 15 to 32.<\/p>\n<p>When talking to CBC Titley noted that,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #008000;\">It&#8217;s an honour. Obviously we&#8217;ve got very good young talent on both the men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s side. We&#8217;re shooting for medals and the best performances we can.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Of the 27 members that Canada is taking to the Olympics, 20 of them will be participating in their first Olympics ever.\u00a0<strong>Penny Oleksiak<\/strong>, 15, is one of the newcomers after her breakout performance at the Olympic swimming trials in Toronto where she set a world junior and Canadian record of 53.31 in the women&#8217;s 100-meter free. Oleksiak is joined by fellow rookies\u00a0<strong>Chantal van Landeghem, Sandrine Mainville,\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Michelle Williams<\/strong>. All four are strong 100 freestylers and could make up Canada&#8217;s 4 x 100-meter free relay.<\/p>\n<p>Swimming Canada and Titley also announced that team veterans\u00a0<strong>Ryan Cochrane<\/strong>, two-time Olympic medalist, and\u00a0<strong>Martha McCabe<\/strong> will serve as team captains throughout the Rio Games. Cochrane commented that,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #008000;\">We have an incredibly strong group of athletes, of all ages, competing in Rio this summer, and it&#8217;s an honour to be recognized as leader amongst such great people.
