AMHERST, Massachusetts, January 26. ASHLEY Bottger (Weston, Conn.) and Erica Derlath (Garden City, N.Y.) each set Joseph Rogers Pool records, Saturday afternoon as the Colgate women's swimming & diving team downed the University of Massachusetts 171-127 to remain undefeated.<\/p>\n
Derlath established the new Rogers Pool standard in the 1650 free as the freshman won the event with a time of 17:13.32. The former record was 17:30 set by Anne Dettloff of Massachusetts set on December 1, 2000. Bottger erased Central Connecticut State's Jaime Crowley record in the 100 free (52.18), which has stood since January 24, 2005. The senior led a one-two Colgate charge with Lisa Marchi (Scottsdale, Ariz.) with a winning time of 51.96. Marchi touched with a 53.38.<\/p>\n
Colgate received 10 other firsts on the day, including five top two finishes. The foursome of Beverly Walker (Marietta, Ga.), Emily Murphy (Syracuse, N.Y.), Marchi and Bottger combined to post a 3:57.74 to win the 400 medley relay, while Emily Peck (Brooktondale, N.Y.), Walker, Murphy and Bottger won the 200 free relay with a winning time of 1:36.71.<\/p>\n
Individually, the Raiders received one-two finishes in the 100 back, 50 free, 200 back, and in the 100 fly. Walker claimed the 100 back (58.96), while Erin McGraw (Penfield, N.Y.) placed second (59.41); Bottger (24.40) and Peck (24.68) went one-two in the 100 free; Walker (2:08.34) and Derlath (2:12.15) posted a one-two in the 200 back, while McGraw (58.47) and Marchi (59.44) finished one-two in the 100 fly.<\/p>\n
Colgate also received firsts from Peck in the 200 free (1:55.21), Murphy in the 100 breast (1:07.45), Caitlin Curran (Alpharetta, Ga.) in the 200 breast (2:26.98), Caren Guyett (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) in the and 500 free (5:12.30)<\/p>\n
Kim Siembeda (Narbeth, Pa.), McGraw, Marchi, and Guyett finished second behind Colgate's top team in the 200 free relay (1:38.26). Guyett claimed the final second place effort in the 200 fly (2:09.86).<\/p>\n
Colgate, 8-0 overall, will look to conclude its 2008-09 regular season schedule unblemished as it travels to West Point, N.Y. to participate in a tri-meet with Army and Patriot League rival Lafayette. The meet starts at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n
For the men, the University of Massachusetts downed Colgate 188-95 in men's swimming action, Sunday afternoon at Joe Rogers Pool. <\/p>\n
Devon Healy (New Canaan, Conn.) claimed the top spot in two of three Colgate victories. The sophomore headed a one-two effort with Casey Powers (Chappawua, N.Y.) in the 1650. Healy posted a winning time of 16:47.83, while Powers touched with a 17:00.13. Healy returned to get first place points in the 200 IM (2:00.21).<\/p>\n
The foursome of Pat White (Stamford, Conn.), Dan Lathrop (Westerly, R.I.), Costas Hadjipateras (New Canaan, Conn.) and Teddy Perley (Harrison, N.Y.) registered a time of 1:29.05 en route to receiving first place points in the meet's final race, the 200 free relay.<\/p>\n
The Raiders tallied two second place efforts on the afternoon as Doug Parks (New Canaan, Conn.) swam a 2:01.67 in the 200 fly, while Tucker Gniewek (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) was second in the 50 free with a time of 21.83.<\/p>\n
Colgate, now 1-7 overall, will wrap up the regular season Saturday afternoon in a tri-meet versus Army and Lafayette. The meet in West Point starts at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n
