Born on May 5th, <\/span><b>Boomer Robert Phelps <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">arrived at 7:21 PM in Arizona, with his father rushing from training in Colorado to be there for the birth. Titled <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/05\/06\/opinion\/olympians-shouldnt-swim-through-sewage.html?_r=0\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOlympians Shouldn\u2019t Swim Through Sewage,\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the piece describes <\/span><b>Cox\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">own experiences swimming in polluted water and cites research that shows the seeming inevitability of infection for those who may compete in Rio\u2019s waters. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recounting her own experiences in polluted waters, <\/span><b>Cox <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reflects that despite being sick with dysentery, \u201cI didn\u2019t want to stop because I was representing the United States, but after 15 miles, I nearly passed out. In the emergency room I was told I was extremely dehydrated and that I could have died.\u201d She also cites research and reports from virologist Kristina Mena, an expert in risk management for waterborne viruses. Mena has predicted it would only take 3 teaspoonfuls of water to give athletes a 99 percent chance of infection. In a statement released by the Gator Swim Club \u201cGator Swim Club has no relationship to Joe Bernal. He is not employed by the Club or involved in any of its operations.\u201d <\/span><b>Bernal <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was banned based on violations on three separate versions of USA Swimming\u2019s Code of Conduct 3:04.3.5. That Code of Conduct protects athletes from sexual misconduct. The full version of the violations can be found <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/new-england-legend-joe-bernal-banned-for-life-by-usa-swimming\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prior to founding Bernal\u2019s Gators, <\/span><b>Joe Bernal <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">coached at Harvard University and was well-known for coaching world record holders and Olympians <\/span><b>David Berkoff <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>Bobby Hackett. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ban has been effective since February 23, 2016, but has just recently been publicized. A few German national records fell throughout the meet, while old and new stars made an impact on the world rankings that should put several Germans in the medal conversation for this summer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">World record holder <\/span><b>Paul Biedermann <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">had one of his strongest swims in the last few seasons, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2009-world-champ-paul-biedermann-surges-to-2nd-in-world-in-200-free\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">moving to second in the world in the 200 freestyle when he touched in 1:45.45 to win the event and punch his ticket to Rio<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Only British swimmer <\/span><b>James Guy <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has been faster this season (1:45.19), which may set up for a European showdown in the 200 free in Rio. World leader in the 200 breaststroke, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/marco-koch-uncorks-207-88-to-win-200-breast-in-germany\/\"><b>Marco Koch, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">qualified in the 200 breaststroke when he won in 2:07.88<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That was just off his top ranked time in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/marco-koch-blasts-14th-fastest-200-breast-all-time\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">200 breast of 2:07.69 from the Luxembourg Euro Meet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>Koch <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">continues to set himself up as the favorite for gold in the event this summer. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the women\u2019s side, <\/span><b>Franziska Hentke <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/franziska-hentke-vaults-to-2nd-in-world-in-200-fly-at-german-nationals\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">moved to second in the world in the 200 butterfly, winning the final in 2:05.77<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That time puts her behind only Australian <\/span><b>Madeline Groves, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who currently leads the world with her 2:05.47 from Aussie Trials. <\/span><b>Sarah Kohler <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also made an impact on the world rankings, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sarah-kohler-moves-to-4th-in-world-in-800-free\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">winning the 800 freestyle on the first night of the meet in 8:22.80 to move to fourth in the world<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>Alexandra Wenk <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">broke two national records through the fourth day of the meet. She set national records <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/alexandra-wenk-lowers-200-im-german-national-record-in-finals\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the process of winning the 200 IM (2:11.33)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/alexandra-wenk-lowers-german-record-in-100-fly\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">100 butterfly (57.70)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
