CLEMSON, South Carolina, January 24. THE NC State men's and women's swimming and diving teams split ACC action at Clemson on Saturday, Jan. 24, with the Wolfpack men winning 165-135 and the women falling 173-126.<\/p>\n
The Wolfpack men now stand at 5-2 (3-2 ACC) on the year, while the women move to 5-4 (2-4 ACC).<\/p>\n
Scott Blackwelder set a new personal record and qualified for the NCAA diving zones with a 333.83 in the 3-meter dive, good for third place overall and third best on the Wolfpack roster this season. Blackwelder's 261.60 for fifth in the 1-meter is also third best on the Pack this year. Austin Hampton's 370.65 in the 3-meter dive was good for second overall, and also marked the second best score ever at the Clemson pool. Hampton later won the 1-meter dive with a 320.40.<\/p>\n
All Wolfpack divers, both on the men's and women's units, have now qualified for at least one dive at the NCAA diving zones this season.<\/p>\n
Kevin Woodhull-Smith, Dan Forsythe, Taylor Goodwin and Conor Brennan placed second in the 200 medley relay with a 1:33.17, before Andrew Lester ripped off back-to-back wins in the 1000 freestyle (9:52.28) and 200 freestyle (1:40.77). Shortly thereafter Forsythe (57.20), Woodhull-Smith (1:53.07) and Brennan (21.32) combined for three-straight victories in the 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 50 freestyle.<\/p>\n
Mason McGee placed second in the 100 freestyle with a 46.70, while Woodhull-Smith finished in the same spot with a 1:52.02 in the 200 backstroke. Forsythe (2:05.68) then won the 200 breaststroke just before Lester (4:40.13) claimed first in the 500 freestyle. Woodhull-Smith won the 200 IM with a 1:51.88 and Brennan, Travis Martinez, Andrew Keenan and McGee ended the day by claiming the top spot in the 200 freestyle relay with a 1:24.98.<\/p>\n
The Wolfpack women won six total events, with Anna Linkenauger grabbing three on her own. Linkenauger started by collecting the 100 breaststroke with a 1:06.41 before swiping the 500 freestyle with a 5:00.20, the quickest mark on the team this season. She later won the 200 IM with a 2:07.17.<\/p>\n
Lucy Lindsey took the top prize in the 100 freestyle with a 52.63, and Patrice Dason grabbed first in the 100 butterfly on a 56.89. Kristin Davies' 297.83 was the top score in the 3-meter dive, while Chelsea Ale's 267.08 was good for third. Davies (266.33) and Ale (254.03) also placed third and fifth in the 1-meter dive.<\/p>\n
Erica Smith, Linkenauger, Dason and Ashley Richter's 1:45.70 was good for second in the 200 medley relay, while Smith finished third in the 100 backstroke on a 57.91. Jen Kopenitz (2:05.72 \u2013 200 backstroke) and Jessica Ward (2:22.26 \u2013 200 breaststroke) each had their own second place showings, while Meg Thompson, Dason, Richter and Lindsey took second in the 200 freestyle relay with a 1:36.57 time.<\/p>\n
NC State will resume action on Tuesday, Feb. 3 when rival North Carolina comes to Casey Natatorium for a 5 p.m. start.<\/p>\n
