The Charlotte stop of the series still has a number of Olympians and Olympic hopefuls, including a strong group from host SwimMAC&#8217;s Team Elite.<\/p>\n<p>The Mecklenburg Country Aquatic Center, home to the meet, has undergone an 8.6 million dollar renovation since the meet was held there last May. While a larger weight room,\u00a0a nicer locker room, and a better flowing lobby won&#8217;t alter the meet, an additional seating area should be a nice addition. More important to the races, the broken pool floor has been removed, and the entire pool has been retiled, in addition to a new gutter and filtration system.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.charlotteagenda.com\/49935\/opening-soon-inside-newly-renovated-mecklenburg-aquatic-center\/\" target=\"_blank\">Read more about the updated facility here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The new energy in the revitalized facility could spark the athletes.\u00a0Here are five races to watch in the Queen City this weekend.<\/p>\n<h2>1. Women&#8217;s 100 Breaststroke<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Katie Meili\u00a0<\/strong>is\u00a0leading the charge\u00a0into Trials in this event, and she is the top seed this weekend, with the world&#8217;s seventh fastest time.\u00a0<strong>Alia Atkinson\u00a0<\/strong>has the world&#8217;s 13th best time this year. The two went head to head <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-meili-downs-alia-atkinson-for-100-breast-pan-american-games-gold\/\" target=\"_blank\">at last summer&#8217;s Pan Am Games<\/a> in this event, with Meili taking gold to Atkinson&#8217;s silver. Indiana University breaststroking stars\u00a0<strong>Lily King\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Miranda Tucker\u00a0<\/strong>finished <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/video-interview-lily-king-and-miranda-tucker-discuss-1-2-finish\/\" target=\"_blank\">1-2 in the 200 short course<\/a> at NCAAs and will be in long course action this weekend.\u00a0<strong>Emma Reaney<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Kierra Smith<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Laura Sogar<\/strong> are among other top seeds.<\/p>\n<h2>2. Men&#8217;s 100 Freestyle<\/h2>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s two entries for the 100 freestyle in Rio,\u00a0<strong>Santo Condorelli<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Yuri Kisil,<\/strong>\u00a0will compete this weekend.\u00a0<strong>Anthony Ervin<\/strong>, who&#8217;s been recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/anthony-ervin-is-headed-to-swimmac\/\" target=\"_blank\">training in Charlotte<\/a>, is seeded third, ahead of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/arianna-vanderpool-wallace-josh-schneider-win-inaugural-tyr-derby-pro\/\" target=\"_blank\">TYR Derby Pro champ<\/a>\u00a0<strong>Josh Schneider. Michael Chadwick\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Ryan Lochte\u00a0<\/strong>are also hoping to sprint to the top this weekend.<\/p>\n<h2>3. Women&#8217;s 100 Butterfly<\/h2>\n<p>The United States&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/dana-vollmers-100-fly-4th-in-the-world-fastest-us-woman-since-2012\/\" target=\"_blank\">leading butterflier<\/a>\u00a0<strong>Dana Vollmer\u00a0<\/strong>will face off with Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/swimming-canada-olympic-trials-pressure-what-pressure-15-year-old-penny-oleksiak-flys-pressure-what-pressure-15-year-old-oleksiak-shinesls-takeaway-pressure-what-pressure\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Penny Oleksiak<\/strong><\/a> as the two hold the world&#8217;s fourth and fifth best times this season.\u00a0<strong>Kelsi Worrell\u00a0<\/strong>was not dominant like she was in yards, but was still quick in Mesa, and will be in the mix again this weekend.<\/p>\n<h2>4. Men&#8217;s 50 Butterfly<\/h2>\n<p>Though not an Olympic event, this should still be a fun one with a little less on the line. Three SwimMAC training partners,\u00a0<strong>Tim Philips<\/strong>, Lochte, and\u00a0<strong>Matthew Josa\u00a0<\/strong>are the top three seeds in the event.\u00a0<strong>Albert Subriats\u00a0<\/strong>of Venezuela holds a faster 100 fly this season than any of these men.<\/p>\n<h2>5. Women&#8217;s 100 Backstroke<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Kylie Masse\u00a0<\/strong>was the only swimmer under a minute at the 2015 World University Games and heads to Rio as Canada&#8217;s top 100 backstroker. Some of the U.S.&#8217;s top younger talent,\u00a0<strong>Claire Adams\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Kathleen Baker,\u00a0<\/strong>are also in the race this weekend.
