Women’s 50 Backstroke<\/strong><\/p>\n

Johanna Ross\u00a0<\/strong>improved on her prelims leading time, and was the top finisher in 28.45.\u00a0Nadine Laemmier\u00a0<\/strong>touched second in 28.76, while\u00a0Laura Riedemann\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Lisa Graf\u00a0<\/strong>each touched .01 behind one another, finishing in 28.77 and 28.78.<\/p>\n

Riedemann’s time was a German Age Group record for the 18 year old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Men’s 50 Backstroke<\/strong><\/p>\n

This morning\u00a0Jan-Philip Glania\u00a0<\/strong>posted the world’s ninth best 50 backstroke this year, finishing in 25.05, but he did not swim the event tonight.\u00a0Marco di Carli\u00a0<\/strong>took gold with a 25.43.<\/p>\n

Carl Louis Black\u00a0<\/strong>was just behind in 25.48 for runner up honors.\u00a0Mark Ulrich\u00a0<\/strong>ended up with the bronze by an even smaller margin, finishing .02 behind in 25.50.<\/p>\n

Women’s 400 freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sarah Kohler\u00a0<\/strong>came away with another distance victory, touching in 4:06.65.\u00a0While she lead at the 200, three other women were within one and a half seconds of her. That time is the 11th best in the world this year. Kohler was the only swimmer to clear the German finals standard to be considered for Olympic nomination.<\/p>\n

Johanna Friedrich\u00a0<\/strong>stayed incredibly close the entire way, until Kohler’s blazing final 50 meters when she pulled ahead.\u00a0Friedrich finished in 4:09.52. That time was painfully close to the finals Olympic standard of 4:09.08, after she had cleared the prelims hurdle.<\/p>\n

Third place went to\u00a0Leonie Antonia Beck<\/strong> with a 4:10.81.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Men’s 400 Freestyle\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Florian Vogel\u00a0<\/strong>led the morning in 3:46.31, the seventh best time in the world this year.\u00a0Clemens Rapp <\/strong>posted\u00a0a 3:49.29 this morning, as both were faster than the 3:50.04 necessary prelims time for Olympic qualification.<\/p>\n

Tonight, Vogel led Rapp by a second at the halfway mark and grew his lead to two and a half\u00a0seconds at the 300 mark. Vogel finished the event in a 3:44.89, the fifth best time in the world this year, and well under the 3:47.49 necessary in finals for German Olympic qualification.<\/p>\n

Rapp finished painfully close to the necessary Olympic standard, touching just .04 away in 3:47.53, to earn silver.<\/p>\n

Third place went to\u00a0Poul Zellmann\u00a0<\/strong>in 3:48.88.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The top three finishers were well ahead of the field, but very close together.\u00a0Dorthea Brandt\u00a0<\/strong>got her hands on the wall first, stopping the clock in 26.02.
