The French Swimming Federation and the Japanese city of Kanazawa have announced a new partnership heading towards the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.<\/p>\n
The aim of the union is to build a new aquatic facility in Kanazawa by 2017, where multiple French swim teams would be able to use from the opening of the pool until the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. The facility, once complete, will boast 10 lanes (long course 50-meters) and a diving well, complete with all of the necessary springboards and platforms.<\/p>\n
The deal came about as part of Japan’s “Project 2020” initiative and was negotiated back in April between the deputy mayor of Kanazawa and the director of international relations and the French Swimming Federation.<\/p>\n
One of the main focuses of the training partnership is to help develop a younger generation of talent that won’t be ready for the Rio Olympics this summer. The young swimmers will get to participate in training camps, competition, coach exchange programs, and sports science exchanges among the nations. The aim is to not only expose the athletes to the training and racing aspects of international competition, but to show them the culture of swimming that flows through different countries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
