LONG BEACH, California, January 17. THE second night of swimming of the USA Swimming Grand Prix in Long Beach, Calif., is underway. Mary DeScenza of Athens Bulldog took down Natalie Coughlin's American record in the 200 fly early in the evening.<\/p>\n
Women's 100 free<\/b>
\nLacey Nymeyer opened the evening with a triumphant time of 48.73. That effort easily surpassed Andi Murez's second-place time of 50.22. Roxane Akradi finished third in 50.59.<\/p>\n
Men's 100 free<\/b>
\nMatt Grevers held off William Copeland, 42.24 to 42.89, in the men's sprint free. Adam Ritter completed the top three in 43.27 with Ous Mellouli showing some versatility with a fourth-place 43.53.<\/p>\n
Women's 200 fly<\/b>
\nMary DeScenza clipped the American record in the event with a swift time of 1:51.28. That sparkling time eclipsed the 1:51.91 set by Natalie Coughlin back in 2002. DeScenza nearly swam the event along as Lyndsay DePaul finished a distant second in 1:56.51. Noelle Tarazona touched third in 1:57.09.<\/p>\n
Men's 200 fly<\/b>
\nHidemasa Sano blasted the field in the event with a time of 1:41.88, while Tom Shields held off Jeff Dash, 1:46.14 to 1:46.96, for second place.<\/p>\n
Women's 200 back<\/b>
\nMary DeScenza was back at it again, this time winning the 200 back with a time of 1:51.85. While she didn't take down another Natalie Coughlin American record (1:49.52) she claimed another first-place finish. Roxane Akradi hit the wall in 1:57.73 for second-place honors, while Cindy Tran took third in 1:59.07.<\/p>\n
Men's 200 back<\/b>
\nRyan Lochte emerged with a winning time of 1:39.01, while Matt Grevers touched close behind in second with a 1:40.42. Adam Ritter rounded out the top three in 1:44.41.<\/p>\n
Women's 500 free<\/b>
\nAfter winning the 1000 to start the meet yesterday, Chloe Sutton returned with another triumph. This time, she clocked a 4:41.69 to claim the middle distance title. Jazz Carlin of Great Britain finished second in 4:43.90, while Lyndsay DePaul took third in 4:45.93.<\/p>\n
Men's 500 free<\/b>
