On the second day of the 2016 IPC European championships, one world record and three European records fell.<\/p>\n

Record setting events<\/h3>\n

Zulfiya Gabidullina\u00a0<\/strong>lowered her own S3 women’s 50 freestyle world record, touching in 43.22. The swimmer from Kazakhstan is not eligible to medal at the European meet, however, so gold went to\u00a0Olga Sviderska\u00a0<\/strong>in 46.64.\u00a0Alexandra Stamatopoulou\u00a0<\/strong>won silver with a 47.89 while\u00a0Iuliia Shishova<\/strong>‘s 48.70 completed the podium.<\/p>\n

Roma Zhdanov\u00a0<\/strong>of Russia set the European record with a 43.52 in the men’s S4 50 backstroke.\u00a0Arnost Petracek\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Jan Povysil\u00a0<\/strong>of the Czech Republic finished second and third in 45.66 and 47.40.<\/p>\n

Nuria Marques Soto\u00a0<\/strong>cleared a year old European record in the S9 women’s 100 backstroke, finishing in 1:09.51.\u00a0Stephanie Millward\u00a0<\/strong>was second in 1:12.68 and\u00a0Zsofia Konkoly\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 1:15.88.<\/p>\n

Another European record fell in the women’s S7 50 butterfly as Great Britian’s\u00a0Susannah Rodgers\u00a0<\/strong>registered a 25.91.\u00a0Judit Rolo Marichal\u00a0<\/strong>touched second in 38.72 and\u00a0Denise Grahl\u00a0<\/strong>finished third in 40.78.<\/p>\n

Oliver Hynd\u00a0<\/strong>won the men’s S8 400 freestyle in 4:24.77.\u00a0Josef Craig\u00a0<\/strong>overcame yesterday’s tattoo disqualification<\/a> to earn silver in 4:35.87.\u00a0Bohdan Hrynenko\u00a0<\/strong>was the bronze medalist in 4:43.76.<\/p>\n

Other events<\/h3>\n

Sarah Louise Rung\u00a0<\/strong>won the SM5 women’s 200 IM today in a 3:18.11, well ahead of second place finisher\u00a0Inbal Pezaro\u00a0<\/strong>in 3:39.27. Third went to\u00a0Teresa Perales\u00a0<\/strong>in 3:41.53.<\/p>\n

In the SM6 men’s 200 IM, the top two finishers were not Europeans.\u00a0Nelson Crispin\u00a0<\/strong>of Colombia (2:43.14) and\u00a0Tallsson Glock\u00a0<\/strong>of Brazil (2:50.06) did not medal, but the gold went to\u00a0Iurii Luchkin\u00a0<\/strong>in 2:57.41.\u00a0Iaroslav Semenenko\u00a0<\/strong>(2:58.26) and\u00a0Yoav Valinsky\u00a0<\/strong>(3:00.04) earned silver and bronze.\u00a0Yelyzaveta Mereshko\u00a0<\/strong>won gold in the women’s event with a 3:03.73, well ahead of\u00a0Nicole Turner <\/strong>in 3:14.41 and\u00a0<\/strong>Verena Schott\u00a0<\/strong>in 3:15.41.<\/p>\n

In the S3 men’s 50 freestyle\u00a0Dmytro Vynohradets\u00a0<\/strong>stopped the clock in 45.43.\u00a0Vincenzo Boni\u00a0<\/strong>earned silver in 45.92 and bronze went to\u00a0Alexander Makarov\u00a0<\/strong>in 47.79.<\/p>\n

Maryna Verbova\u00a0<\/strong>won the women’s S4 50 backstroke, touching in 53.76.\u00a0Arjola Trimi\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Mariia Lafina\u00a0<\/strong>completed the podium, posting times of 54.91 and 55.59.<\/p>\n

Brasilian swimmers\u00a0Andre Brasil\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Pam Rodrigues\u00a0<\/strong>took the top two spots in the S10 men’s 100 freestyle, finishing in 52.17 and 52.34. Gold went to\u00a0Dmitry Grigoryev\u00a0<\/strong>in 54.30, silver went to\u00a0Dmitri Bartasinski\u00a0<\/strong>in 54.42 and\u00a0Denys Dubrov\u00a0<\/strong>won bronze with a 54.56.<\/p>\n

Canadian\u00a0Aurelie Rivard\u00a0<\/strong>was the top finisher for the women’s S10 100 freestyle.\u00a0Nina Ryabova\u00a0<\/strong>wins gold in 1:00.93.\u00a0Elodie Lorandi\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.29) and\u00a0Chantalle Zjderveld\u00a0<\/strong>(1:02.77) also medaled in the event.<\/p>\n

James Crisp\u00a0<\/strong>was the winner of the S9 men’s 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.18.\u00a0Patryk Biskup\u00a0<\/strong>won silver in 1:04.98 and\u00a0Tama Toth\u00a0<\/strong>got bronze in 1:05.85.<\/p>\n

In the S12 men’s 50 freestyle,\u00a0Maksym Veraksa\u00a0<\/strong>stopped the clock in 23.80, ahead of Azerbaijan duo\u00a0Dzmitry\u00a0<\/strong>(24.14) and\u00a0Raman Salei\u00a0<\/strong>(24.45). For the women,\u00a0Darya Stukalova\u00a0<\/strong>was first to the wall in 27.00, ahead of\u00a0Hannah Russell\u00a0<\/strong>(27.46) and\u00a0Naomi Maike Schnittger\u00a0<\/strong>(28.44).<\/p>\n

Yevhenly Bohodayko\u00a0<\/strong>recorded a 29.91 to win the men’s S7 50 butterfly.\u00a0Egor Efrosinin\u00a0<\/strong>(31.09) won silver and\u00a0Andriy Kozlenko\u00a0<\/strong>won bronze (32.68).<\/p>\n

Ihar Boki\u00a0<\/strong>swam a 23.61 to win the S13 men’s 50 freestyle.\u00a0Oleksii Fedyna <\/strong>and\u00a0<\/strong>Iaroslav Denysenko<\/strong>\u00a0(24.34) tied for silver.<\/p>\n

In the women’s S13 50 freestyle,\u00a0Anna Stetsenko\u00a0<\/strong>stopped the clock in 27.45 and\u00a0Anna Krivshina\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed silver in 27.85. Bronze went to\u00a0Joanna Mendak\u00a0<\/strong>in 28.87.<\/p>\n

Eolclech Artur Makowski\u00a0<\/strong>won the title in the S11 men’s 100 backstroke with a time of 1:09.01.\u00a0Dmytro Zalevskyy\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Viktor Smyrnov\u00a0<\/strong>finished the podium in 1:09.96 and 1:10.28.<\/p>\n

In the women’s S11 100 backstroke\u00a0Maryna Piddubna\u00a0<\/strong>was first in 1:20.11.\u00a0Daniela Schulte\u00a0<\/strong>(1:22.45) and\u00a0Cecilia Camellini\u00a0<\/strong>(1:22.65) completed the top 3.<\/p>\n

The women’s S8 400 freestyle\u00a0Amalie Vinther\u00a0<\/strong>captured gold in 5:17.01.\u00a0Vendula Duskova\u00a0<\/strong>touched second in 5:26.57 and third went to\u00a0Mariia Pavlova\u00a0<\/strong>in 5:32.69.<\/p>\n
