PHOENIX, Arizona, January 16. THE College Swim Coaches Association of America released its latest college dual meet rankings yesterday accompanied by the following press release:<\/p>\n
After most teams completed travel to a winter training destination, the spring semester has begun and dual meet action is back in full swing for the second half of the 2008-09 season. The women’s rankings remained the same through the top eight positions with the Georgia Bulldogs receiving all nine first-place votes. The Bulldogs got off to a great start by defeating # 18 Southern Methodist (139.5-99.5) and #3 Texas (159-141). The only new team in either Top 25 are the women from Princeton at twenty-five. Two women’s teams achieved positive moves in the polls of three spots, Tennessee (10) and Arkansas (19).<\/p>\n
The men’s top eight had a bit of shuffling, but after the votes were tabulated the Texas Longhorns are also a unanimous selection. 2009 started with victories on the road for the ‘Horns with meets against SEC opponents at Auburn (139-102) and Georgia (169-126). After the results of the double-dual meet with Michigan, Indiana, and Tennessee the Wolverines moved to the second spot and the Hoosiers have impressed the voters enough to move six slots to eighth while the Volunteers slid to eleventh.<\/p>\n
This year’s poll will be published eight times and the champion will be crowned on February 26, 2009. Pollsters representing eight conferences along with two at-large voters have the task of ranking the top dual meet teams in the nation throughout the season. Additionally, the group of pollsters is completely different for the men’s and women’s rankings. This poll should not be confused with the results of the NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Championships that will take place in March.<\/p>\n
