VERACRUZ, Mexico, January 15. FORMER Texas A&M All-America swimmer Alejandro Jacobo broke three Mexican national records en route to three victories at the 2008 Mexican National Short Course Championships Dec. 18-22.<\/p>\n
Jacobo, who has continued to train with the Aggie swimmers since his graduation earlier this year, swept the breaststroke races at the 50-, 100- and 200-meter distances while posting top 20 times in the world in all three events. All three of the records broken by Jacobo were previously held by his older brother, Alfredo Jacobo, who also was an All-America swimmer for the Aggies.<\/p>\n
The 2007 Big 12 200-yard breaststroke champion, Jacobo brought the crowd to its feet in Veracruz by becoming the first swimmer from Mexico to go under one-minute in the 100-meter breast with a time of 58.83. It broke the record of 1:00.63 , and ranks 19th in the world in 2008.<\/p>\n
Jacobo cut nearly four seconds off the national record in the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:08.14 which ranks No. 17 in the world this year. In the 50 breast, Jacobo's record-setting time was 27.12, which ranks No. 19 in the world.<\/p>\n
