In the first day of the 2016 IPC Swimming European Championships, three world records, two European records, and one Asian record were set.<\/p>\n
Valerila Shabalina\u00a0<\/strong>took down the S14 200 freestyle world record with a 2:03.54, faster than\u00a0Bethany Firth\u00a0<\/strong>went last week in Glasgow.\u00a0Jessica-Jane Applegate\u00a0<\/strong>posted a 2:06.29 for second, well ahead of third place finisher\u00a0Michelle Alonso Morales\u00a0<\/strong>in 2:16.87.<\/p>\n Muslima Odilova\u00a0<\/strong>of Uzbekistan set the S13 women’s 100 butterfly world record with a 1:04.98.\u00a0Darya Stukalova\u00a0<\/strong>won the event in the S12 classification, posting a 1:04.92.\u00a0Joanna Mendak\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Alessia Berra\u00a0<\/strong>earned silver and bronze in 1:06.44 and 1:07.81.<\/p>\n Arjola\u00a0<\/strong>Trimi\u00a0<\/strong>lowered her own S4 women’s 100 freestyle world record, finishing in 1:28.02.\u00a0Mariia Lafina\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Maryna Verbova\u00a0<\/strong>placed second and third in 1:38.57 and 1:54.01.<\/p>\n Sari Gascon\u00a0<\/strong>set the S9 women’s European record with her 28.89 50 meter freestyle, under the 2014 mark of 29.04.\u00a0Natalia Mamlina\u00a0<\/strong>finished second in 29.79.\u00a0Nuria Marques Soto\u00a0<\/strong>was third with a 30.03.<\/p>\n Ihar Boki\u00a0<\/strong>went a 54.65 to claim the title in the S13 men’s 100 fly.\u00a0Roman Makarov\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed silver with a 57.03. Though not eligible to medal,\u00a0Kirill Pankov\u00a0<\/strong>of Uzbekistan set the Asian record in 57.97. Bronze went to\u00a0Raman Salei\u00a0<\/strong>in 57.98.<\/p>\n Denys Dubrov\u00a0<\/strong>won the S10 men’s 400 freestyle in 4:08.54, just ahead of Russia’s\u00a0Dmitri Bartasinskii\u00a0<\/strong>in 4:08.77.\u00a0Andre Brasil <\/strong>of Brazil\u00a0touched third in 4:13.34, so bronze went to Patryk Karlinski\u00a0<\/strong>of Poland in 4:17.09.<\/p>\n Canada’s Aurelie Rivard <\/strong>touched first in\u00a0the women’s S10 400 freestyle in 4:34.65, while\u00a0Elodie Lorandi\u00a0<\/strong>earned gold in 4:35.54 and\u00a0Oliwia Jablonska\u00a0<\/strong>earned silver in 4:35.91.\u00a0Bianka Pap\u00a0<\/strong>rounded out the podium with a 4:45.77.<\/p>\n Oleksandr Komarov\u00a0<\/strong>took home gold in the S6 100 backstroke in 1:19.82. With a 1:19.27\u00a0Sebastian Iwanow\u00a0<\/strong>secured second.\u00a0Thijs van Hofweegen\u00a0<\/strong>placed third in 1:20.78.<\/p>\n The women’s S6 100 backstroke was won by\u00a0Anastasia Diodrova\u00a0<\/strong>in 1:26.67. A Ukranian duo-\u00a0Oksana Khrul<\/strong> and\u00a0Yelzaveta Mereshko\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 1:27.71 and 1:29.34 to complete the podium.<\/p>\n World record holder\u00a0Jonathan Fox\u00a0<\/strong>went a 1:10.62 to win the S7 100 backstroke, ahead of\u00a0Andre Gladkov\u00a0<\/strong>(1:11.45) and\u00a0Yevhenly Bohodayko\u00a0<\/strong>(1:12.96).<\/p>\n Two German women topped the S7 100 backstroke podium as\u00a0Verena Schott\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Denise Grahl\u00a0<\/strong>swam the event in 1:28.14 and 1:28.95. Italy’s\u00a0Arianna Talamona\u00a0<\/strong>finished in 1:32.79 for third.<\/p>\n Hennadii\u00a0<\/strong>Boiko\u00a0<\/strong>stopped the clock in 5:04.11 to win the men’s S1 200 freestyle. Ukranian teammate\u00a0Anton Kol\u00a0<\/strong>finished third in 5:07.90. Italian\u00a0Francesco Bettella\u00a0<\/strong>placed second in 5:05.70.<\/p>\n Dmitrii Kokarev\u00a0<\/strong>won the men’s S2 200 freestyle with a 4:12.76.\u00a0Serhii Palamarchuk\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Ievgen Panibratets\u00a0<\/strong>followed in 4:21.76 and 4:31.53.<\/p>\n In the S5 men’s 50 butterfly,\u00a0Andrew Mullen\u00a0<\/strong>swam a 36.91.\u00a0Dmitrii\u00a0<\/strong>Cherniaev\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Beytullah Eroglu\u00a0<\/strong>earned silver and bronze in 38.38 and 38.41.<\/p>\n The top finisher in the women’s S5 50 butterfly was\u00a0Sarah Louise Rung\u00a0<\/strong>in 43.71.\u00a0Teresa Perales\u00a0<\/strong>touched second in 46.14.\u00a0Reka Kezdi\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 46.41.<\/p>\n Matthew Wylie\u00a0<\/strong>was the winner of the S9 men’s 50 freestyle, touching in 25.85.\u00a0Leo Lahteenmaki\u00a0<\/strong>touched second in 26.17 while\u00a0Jose Antonio Mari Alcaraz\u00a0<\/strong>finished third in 26.22.<\/p>\n Vincenso Boni<\/strong>‘s 45.94 won the S3 men’s 50 backstroke ahead of silver and bronze medalists\u00a0Alexander Makarov\u00a0<\/strong>(48.03) and\u00a0MA Martinez T\u00a0<\/strong>(52.53).<\/p>\n Olga Sviderska\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Iulila Shishova\u00a0<\/strong>were both under a minute in the S3 50 backstroke, touching in 56.03 and 59.51.\u00a0Alexandra Stamatopoulou\u00a0<\/strong>finished third in 1:01.15.<\/p>\n The top three men’s S14 200 freestylers cracked\u00a0two minutes.\u00a0Thomas Hamer\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 1:57.96 while\u00a0Jon Margeir Sverrisson\u00a0<\/strong>on his heels in 1:58.06.\u00a0Mikhail Kuliabin\u00a0<\/strong>was third with a 1:58.75.<\/p>\n The S4 men’s 100 freestyle title went to\u00a0Roman Zhdanov\u00a0<\/strong>in 1:24.24 ahead of\u00a0Darko Duric\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Andrii Derevinskyi\u00a0<\/strong>in 1:28.21 and 1:28.54.<\/p>\n Denis Tarasov\u00a0<\/strong>(58.09) beat\u00a0Oliver Hynd\u00a0<\/strong>(59.88) and\u00a0Bohdan Hyynenko\u00a0<\/strong>(1:00.19) for the men’s S8 100 freestyle crown.<\/p>\n Olesia Vlatkina\u00a0<\/strong>was first to the wall in the S8 women’s 100 freestyle, finishing in 1:09.97.\u00a0Amalie Vinther\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Mariia Pavlova\u00a0<\/strong>touched second and third with times of 1:10.86 and 1:11.86.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" In the first day of the 2016 IPC Swimming European Championships, three world records, two European records, and one Asian record were set.
