Bick<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This past Friday the University of Louisville <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/arianna-vanderpool-wallace-josh-schneider-win-inaugural-tyr-derby-pro\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hosted the inaugural TYR Derby Pro ahead of the Kentucky Derby.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The TYR Derby Pro featured eight men and eight women competing in a shootout 50 freestyle contest. While not a long course meters event, this brought together some of the best sprinters from around the world to compete in rapid-fire head-to-head racing. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the women\u2019s side, <\/span><b>Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> won the final round with a 21.43, which was good for $4,000. <\/span><b>Ivy Martin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> finished second in 21.83 to take home $3,000, with <\/span><b>Kelsi Worrell <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(22.06) and <\/span><b>Alia Atkinson<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (22.55) earning $2,000 and $1,000 respectively for their performances. On the men\u2019s side, <\/span><b>Josh<\/b> <b>Schneider<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> posted the fastest time of the night in the finale, touching in 19.14 over <\/span><b>Kristian Gkolomeev<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (19.34). That broke the previous record that had been on the books for a staggering <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">twenty-nine years<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Several big names were on hand as well, including U.S. breaststroke star <\/span><b>Katie Meili<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-meili-sets-1-of-17-more-national-marks-at-us-masters-champs\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who broke <\/span><b>Megan Jendrick\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">25-29 age group record in the 50 breaststroke with a 27.10<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Other notable swims included <\/span><b>Thomas Maine <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">setting multiple national records, including <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/90-year-old-thomas-maine-among-10-record-setters-at-final-day-of-masters-nationals\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">breaking the 90-94 record in the 400 IM by over 30 seconds (8:37.61)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the final day of the meet. Overall, there were over 40 national records set throughout the course of the five day meet. This means that <\/span><b>Lopez <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will be leaving his post in Singapore after the Olympics to return back to the United States. <\/span><b>Lopez\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Singapore position was originally expected to be a five year appointment when he started in January of 2015. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While in Singapore, <\/span><b>Lopez <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">guided the national team to previously unseen success, including working with <\/span><b>Joseph Schooling <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who left Kazan with a bronze medal and most recently helped <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/texas-captures-record-tying-12th-ncaa-mens-championship\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rewrite the NCAA record book en route to a second consecutive National Championship for the University of Texas<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. His times in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/park-tae-hwan-posts-worlds-7th-best-200-freestyle-at-korean-olympic-trials\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the 200 (1:46.31)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/park-tae-hwan-blasts-worlds-4th-best-400-freestyle\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">400 freestyle (3:44.26)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ranked him seventh and fourth in the world respectively for 2016. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Park <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is ineligible to compete due to a positive testosterone test from the 2014 Asian Games. Should he continue swimming, he would be eligible to compete in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. <\/span><b>Park <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is South Korea\u2019s only swimming gold medalist. He captured gold in the 400 freestyle at the 2008 Beijing Games in addition to a silver in the 200 freestyle.
