The Fran Crippen Swim Meet of Champions, sponsored by TYR, kicked off yesterday in California with swift times from some of swimming’s top sprinters.<\/p>\n
Abbey Weitzeil\u00a0<\/strong>delivered a stunning finish of 54.13 in the women’s 100 free to finish almost two seconds ahead of the competition. Weitzeil’s finish set a new meet and pool record in the event.<\/p>\n Dylan Carter\u00a0<\/strong>followed up Weitzeil’s top finish with a sub-50 second finish in the men’s 100 free. Carter stopped the clock at 49.74 to be the only athlete under the 50-second mark.\u00a0Justin Lynch<\/strong> turned in a 50.19 for second, while\u00a0Michael Domagal\u00a0<\/strong>was third with a 50.68.<\/p>\n Noelle Tarazoma<\/strong> topped the women’s 200 fly field with a time of 2:12.78.\u00a0Haley Anderson<\/strong> and\u00a0Katie McLaughlin<\/strong> kept a close race for second and third. Anderson got her hand to the wall first, stopping the clock at a 2:13.64 ahead of McLaughlin’s 2:13.88.<\/p>\n A close finish highlighted the men’s 200 fly with\u00a0Brendan Meyer\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Grant\u00a0<\/strong>Shoults\u00a0<\/b>finishing .05 seconds apart. Meyer out-touched Shoults 2:00.72 to 2:00.77.\u00a0Bobby Bollier\u00a0<\/strong>was close behind with a 2:00.82.<\/p>\n The women’s 200 back was won by\u00a0Amy Bilquist\u00a0<\/strong>who stopped the clock at a 2:13.22.\u00a0Eva Merrell\u00a0<\/strong>finished close behind with a time of 2:13.55.<\/p>\n Patrick Mulcare\u00a0<\/strong>dashed ahead of the competition in the men’s 200 back, finishing almost three full seconds ahead of the field with a 2:01.99.<\/p>\n Stephanie Peaco\u00a0<\/strong>posted the top time in the women’s 400 free with a quick 4:10.65, while Anderson turned in a 4:17.31 for second.<\/p>\n Ous\u00a0Mellouli\u00a0<\/strong>took the title in the men’s 400 free with a 3:52.52.
