ATHENS, Georgia, January 10. NO. 1 Texas (5-0) swept the relays and diving events and won 12 of 16 events on the afternoon en route to a 169-126 victory over No. 11 Georgia (2-3) Saturday at UGA's Gabrielsen Natatorium.<\/p>\n
Senior Sean Patton and junior Dave Walters led the Longhorns with two individual swimming victories apiece, and the Longhorn divers went 5-for-5 on the weekend, as they completed a sweep of the two diving events after winning three diving events on Thursday at No. 8 Auburn.<\/p>\n
Texas opened the day with a victory in the 400-yard medley relay, as junior Ricky Berens, senior Agustin Magruder, junior Hill Taylor and sophomore Jonathan Jackson won in 3:16.09. Walters tacked on his first win of the day in the 200 freestyle \u2013 an event in which he holds the American record \u2013 as he led a one through four Texas finish in 1:36.64. Freshman Jackson Wilcox took second in 1:39.22, and junior Peter Jameson placed third in 1:39.38. Sophomore Scott Jostes took fourth in 1:40.36. <\/p>\n
Patton notched his first win of the day in the 100 backstroke, where he won in 49.49 and edged Berens by one one-hundredth of a second. Walters added his second win of the afternoon in the 50 freestyle in 20.17. Junior Ben Van Roekel took third in 20.75. <\/p>\n
Sophomore Matt Cooper scored a win in the one-meter diving event with 349.80 points, and freshman Drew Livingston followed in second with 333.37 points. Senior Jonathan Wilcox placed fourth with 326.25 points. Berens led a one-two-three Texas showing in the 100 freestyle, where he took the win in 44.60. Jameson followed in second at 45.16, and Van Roekel took third in 45.91.<\/p>\n
Patton scored his second victory in the 200 backstroke in 1:46.42, and Jackson Wilcox added a win in the 500 freestyle in a NCAA provisional-qualifying mark of 4:24.37. Senior Michael Klueh took second in 4:25.85. Taylor led a one-two Longhorn finish in the 100 butterfly in 48.22, and sophomore Matt Donch placed second in 48.43. <\/p>\n
Livingston capped a spectacular weekend with his fourth diving win in two meets, as he captured the three-meter event with 384.07 points. Jonathan Wilcox placed second with 382.12 points, and Cooper took third with 367.49 points. With the team victory in hand, Texas elected to swim the final two events as exhibitions, though the Longhorns went on to capture both events. <\/p>\n
Sophomore Bryan Collins claimed the 400 IM in 3:53.94, and Jackson Wilcox placed third at 4:01.25. The quartet of Jostes, Donch, Jackson and sophomore Brian Wilson claimed the final event, the 200 freestyle relay, in 1:21.90. <\/p>\n
