LAS VEGAS, Nevada, January 6. THE UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving programs started off the new year by sweeping a home conference meet against TCU, as the Rebel men (4-0, 3-0 MWC) defeated TCU 184-113, while the UNLV women (3-3, 2-3 MWC) posted a 166-134 win over the Horned Frogs on Tuesday night from Buchanan Natatorium. <\/p>\n
UNLV claimed nine wins over 16 events on the men's side of the meet, and was paced by a trio of double-event winners. Andrew Morrell claimed the two breast events, winning the 100 in 57.40 and the 200 in 2:05.18. Kier Maitland touched first in the 200 free (1:41.70) and the 500 free (4:33.07), and David Seiler won the 100 (49.33) and 200 fly (1:51.87). Also winning events for the Rebel men was John Mendoza in the 1000 free (9:38.54) and Thomas Andolfsson in the 50 free (20.91). UNLV won both relays as well, as the team of Nick Blank, Morrell, Steven Nelms, and Andolfsson was first in the 200 medley relay (1:32.39), while Nelms, Calan Eldridge, Charlie Tapp and Andolfsson won the 400 free relay in 3:07.33. <\/p>\n
On the women's side, UNLV won eight events, and would use its depth to claim the victory. It was a close contest through the first six events, but the Rebels started to pull away with a 1-2-3 sweep in the 50 free, and then took control by taking the top four spots in the 200 back. Leading the team was new Rebel Zsu Jakabos, a triple-event winner in her first collegiate meet. She won the 200 fly (2:02.96), the 100 back (2:02.40), and the 400 IM (4:21.22). Also winning individual events was Amanda Weinbrecht in the 100 back (58.03), Madison Rousell in the 50 free (24.53) and Marva Harpak in the 100 free (52.39). UNLV would claim both relays as well, with Weinbrecht, Clarke, Jakabos, and Clark winning the 200 medley relay in 1:45.77, while Friderika Szel, Rousell, Megan Clark and Harpak won the 400 free relay in 3:31.12.<\/p>\n
