{"id":199207,"date":"2016-04-26T09:10:45","date_gmt":"2016-04-26T16:10:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=199207"},"modified":"2016-04-26T10:37:54","modified_gmt":"2016-04-26T17:37:54","slug":"british-swimming-name-26-to-european-junior-championships-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/british-swimming-name-26-to-european-junior-championships-team\/","title":{"rendered":"British Swimming Names 26 to European Junior Championships Team"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>European Games champions <strong>Holly Hibbott<\/strong> and <strong>Abbie Wood<\/strong> will spearhead a young British Swimming team set to compete in Hungary for the European Junior Championships this summer.<\/p>\n<p>The team of 26 will compete in the city of Hodmezovasarhely from <span data-term=\"goog_1189692437\">6 to 10 July<\/span> for continental honours.<\/p>\n<p>Following an impressive 2015 season on the junior circuit, British Swimming Head of Performance Pathway Tim Jones is looking forward to seeing the level of progress that has been made.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will be the largest team we have taken to these Championships in recent years, and it is littered with quality and experience,\u201d said Jones.\u00a0\u201cThe change in female age groups this year will see a number of past gold medal winners, including Holly Hibbott and Abbie Wood, compete for the third year in succession, and this will provide invaluable experience to the team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The European Junior Championships are a key development opportunity for young British athletes and Jones fully expects his latest contingent to continue the success of their predecessors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe always judge the success of our junior programme on the number of athletes who manage to successfully convert to the senior ranks, so we take great pride in seeing Duncan Scott, Georgia Coates and Cameron Kurle recently named in the Rio Olympic Team,\u201d said Jones.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope and fully expect to see some of this latest crop of 26 swimmers push for their own Olympic selection in Tokyo <span data-term=\"goog_1189692438\">in four years<\/span>\u2019 time, and this summer will provides a great opportunity to continue their journey.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The European Junior Championships take place in Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary from <span data-term=\"goog_1189692439\">6 to 10 July 2016<\/span>.
