CHAPEL HILL, N.C. \u2013 The University of North Carolina men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming and diving programs have elected their 2016-17 team captains as announced by UNC head swimming coach Rich DeSelm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Sophomore Caroline Baldwin<\/strong> of Westfield, N.J. and junior Hellen Moffitt<\/strong> of Alexandria, Va., have been chosen as the co-captains of the women\u2019s team for next season.<\/p>\n

Junior Matt Conway<\/strong> of Grayslake, Ill., and junior Jack Nyquist<\/strong> of Alpharetta, Ga., have been elected as co-captains of the 2016-17 men\u2019s squad.<\/p>\n

Baldwin is coming off a tremendous sophomore campaign during which she earned honorable mention All-America honors in the 200-yard medley, 400-yard medley, 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relays.\u00a0 During 2015-16, she helped establish school records in the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays.\u00a0 At the ACC Championships, she finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke, seventh in the 50-yard freestyle and ninth in the 100-yard freestyle.\u00a0She also swam on the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relays which reached the awards podium with bronze medal finishes.<\/p>\n

Moffitt excelled in 2015-16, taking home first-team All-America honors in the 100-yard butterfly with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships.\u00a0 She also swam on 200-yard and 400-yard medley relays which merited honorable mention All-America honors at the NCAA meet.\u00a0 Moffitt established school records as a junior in the 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard backstroke and as a member of the 200-yard medley relay.\u00a0 At the ACC Championships she ascended the awards podium in three events \u2013 taking second in the 100 fly, third in the 100 back and third in the 200 fly.<\/p>\n

Conway had his best season to date as a Tar Heel in 2015-16.\u00a0 She earned a spot on the ACC Championships scoring team and notched points for the Tar Heel team in all three of his events.\u00a0 He took 13th in the 100-yard butterfly, 13th in the 200-yard butterfly and 14th in the 500-yard freestyle.\u00a0 In the process, he set career best times in all three events.<\/p>\n

Nyquist, a tremendous ACC and national performer in his freshman and sophomore years, took his game to a whole new level as a junior this past year.\u00a0 He finished as the ACC Championships runner-up in both the one-meter and three-meter diving competition.\u00a0 He then went on to take sixth in three-meter diving at the NCAA Championships.\u00a0 In the process, he became the first Tar Heel diver to earn first-team All-America honors since 1957.\u00a0 Nyquist set career best scores in both one-meter and three-meter, breaking his own school record in the one-meter event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
