Women’s 200 free<\/strong><\/p>\n

Federica Pellegrini<\/strong> continued to shine at the 2016 Italian\u00a0Nationals as the soon-to-be four-time Olympian crushed the women’s 200 free.<\/p>\n

Pellegrini won in a time of 1:55.30, pushing her to fourth in the world rankings. Only Katie Ledecky<\/strong> (1:54.43), Emma McKeon<\/strong> (1:54.83) and Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> (1:54.87) have been faster this year.<\/p>\n

Alice Mizzau<\/strong> placed second in a time of 1:58.71 to secure the second spot on the Italian Olympic roster.<\/p>\n

Martina De Memme<\/strong> (1:59.33), Stefania Pirozzi<\/strong> (1:59.52), Erica Musso<\/strong> (1:59.74), Chiara Masini Luccetti<\/strong> (2:00.28), Alice Nesti<\/strong> (2:00.30) and Linda Caponi<\/strong> (2:01.35) finished third through eighth in the finale.<\/p>\n

Men’s 200 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n

Federico Turrini<\/strong> put up a winning time of 1:59.61 to clear the FINA A cut of 2:00.28 for Olympic roster selection.<\/p>\n

Giovanni Sorriso<\/strong>, meanwhile, missed the A cut with a second-place time of 2:00.68. Lorenzo Glessi<\/strong> finished third in 2:01.79 with Luca Dioli<\/strong> earning fourth in 2:01.85.<\/p>\n

Davide Cova<\/strong> (2:02.06), Lorenzo Tarocchi<\/strong> (2:02.91), Gabriele Minichini<\/strong> (2:03.01), and Gianluca Maiorana<\/strong> (2:03.73) picked up the rest of the finishing times in finals.<\/p>\n

Luca Dotto<\/strong> cleared the FINA A cut (22.27) in the men’s 50-meter free with a time of 21.91. \u00a0That swim tied him for ninth in the world rankings.<\/p>\n

Federico Bocchia<\/strong>, known as King Shark for his pre-race escapades<\/a>, claimed second with a 22.06 also under the FINA A cut for potential Olympic selection.<\/p>\n

Giuseppe Guttuso<\/strong> (22.30), Piero Codia<\/strong> (22.50), Andrea Vergani<\/strong> (22.56), Lucio Spadaro<\/strong> (22.63), Michele Santucci<\/strong> (22.70) and Leonardo Vimercati<\/strong> (22.80) placed third through eighth in the event.<\/p>\n

Women’s 50 breast<\/strong><\/p>\n

Martina Carraro<\/strong>, who already ranked fourth in the world in the women’s 50-meter breast with a 30.79 from the Milan Trophy meet, nearly topped the time tonight in Italy.<\/p>\n

Carraro claimed the title in 30.86, just off her 30.79 from earlier this year.<\/p>\n

Arianna Castiglioni<\/strong> placed second overall in a time of 31.02 to move to seventh in the world, while Ilaria Scarcella<\/strong> took third in 31.56.<\/p>\n

Michela Guzzetti<\/strong> (31.66), Lisa Angiolini<\/strong> (32.21), Sara Gyertyanffy<\/strong> (32.23), Lisa Fissneider<\/strong> (32.25) and Alessia Ferraguti<\/strong> (32.27) placed fourth through eighth.<\/p>\n

Gabriele Detti<\/strong> moved to third in the world in the men’s 800-meter free at the 2016 Italian Nationals.<\/p>\n

Detti put up a 7:48.19, second only to Mack Horton<\/strong> (7:46.07) and Gregorio Paltrinieri<\/strong> (7:47.32) this year. \u00a0Detti improved on his fourth-ranked 7:51.02 from the Milan Trophy meet.<\/p>\n

Samuel Pizzetti<\/strong> finished second in 7:58.37 with Domenico Acerenza<\/strong> earning third in 7:59.67.<\/p>\n

Federico Vanelli<\/strong> (8:05.10), Simone Ruffini<\/strong> (8:05.19), Riccardo Andriola<\/strong> (8:12.37), Matteo Furlan<\/strong> (8:14.71), Ediz Yildirimer<\/strong> (8:17.67) and Lorenzo Biancalana<\/strong> (8:22.05) also swam in the top heat.<\/p>\n
