{"id":198812,"date":"2016-04-21T12:05:22","date_gmt":"2016-04-21T19:05:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=198812"},"modified":"2016-04-21T12:05:22","modified_gmt":"2016-04-21T19:05:22","slug":"british-swimming-olympic-roster-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/british-swimming-olympic-roster-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"British Swimming Announces Olympic Roster"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The British Olympic Association (BOA) today announced the 26-strong swimming squad who have been selected to Team GB for this summer\u2019s Rio 2016 Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>The 26 athletes sealed their spots on the plane to Rio with their performances at last week\u2019s British Swimming Championships.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong> leads the way for Team GB with World and European titles to his name as well as world-record times in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty will be joined in Rio by fellow World Champion <strong>James Guy<\/strong>, World individual medallists <strong>Jazz Carlin<\/strong> and <strong>Siobhan-Marie O\u2019Connor<\/strong> as well as four members of the World Championship winning men\u2019s 4x200m freestyle relay squad.<\/p>\n<p>As well as Olympic debuts for Peaty, Guy and Carlin, the squad sees some familiar Team GB faces with O\u2019Connor, <strong>Andrew Willis<\/strong> and <strong>Hannah Miley<\/strong> all returning again after appearing four years ago at London 2012. And in <strong>Robbie Renwick<\/strong> Team GB has the invaluable experience of two previous Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>April 27 will mark 100 days to go until Rio 2016 gets underway and the 26 swimmers bring the total number of Team GB athletes selected for the Games to 47 with 11 sailors, six shooters and four slalom canoeists already announced.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The selected swimmers are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>James Guy, 20, born in Bury, swims for Millfield<\/p>\n<p>Adam Peaty, 21, Uttoxeter, City of Derby<\/p>\n<p>Max Litchfield, 21, Sheffield, City of Sheffield<\/p>\n<p>Jazz Carlin, 25, Swindon, National Centre Bath<\/p>\n<p>Siobhan-Marie O\u2019Connor, 20, Bath, National Centre Bath<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Willis, 25, Frimley, National Centre Bath<\/p>\n<p>Hannah Miley, 26, Swindon, Garioch<\/p>\n<p>Ben Proud, 21, London, Plymouth Leander<\/p>\n<p><em>The athletes above gained selection after they won their event and achieved the nomination standard at the 2016 British Championships as per the BOA selection policy.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Chloe Tutton, 19, Pontypridd, City of Cardiff<\/p>\n<p>Ross Murdoch, 22, Balloch, University of Stirling<\/p>\n<p>Stephen Milne, 21, Inverness, Perth City<\/p>\n<p>Robbie Renwick, 27, Abu Dhabi, University of Stirling<\/p>\n<p>Duncan Scott, 18, Glasgow, University of Stirling<\/p>\n<p>Craig Benson, 21, Livingston, University of Stirling<\/p>\n<p>Fran Halsall, 26, Southport, National Centre Loughborough<\/p>\n<p>Molly Renshaw, 19, Mansfield, National Centre Loughborough<\/p>\n<p>Chris Walker-Hebborn, 25 Enfield, National Centre Bath<\/p>\n<p>Tim Shuttleworth, 18, Hatfield, National Centre Loughborough<\/p>\n<p>Aimee Willmott, 23, Middlesbrough, London Aquatics Centre PP<\/p>\n<p>Eleanor Faulkner, 23, Sheffield, City of Sheffield<\/p>\n<p>Georgia Coates, 17, Leeds, City of Leeds<\/p>\n<p>Camilla Hattersley, 21, Edinburgh, City of Glasgow<\/p>\n<p>Georgia Davies, 25, London, National Centre Loughborough<\/p>\n<p><em>The athletes above gained selection after they achieved a time within 2% of the set benchmark time included within the BOA selection policy (individual and relay).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Cameron Kurle, 18, Glastonbury, Millfield<\/p>\n<p>Ieuan Lloyd, 22, Penarth, City of Cardiff<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Wallace, 22, Edinburgh, Warrender<\/p>\n<p><em>The athletes above gained selection at the discretion of the British Head Coach and National Performance Director as per the BOA selection policy.
