Men’s 100 fly<\/strong><\/p>\n

Matteo Rivolta<\/strong>\u00a0raced his way to fifth in the world rankings in the men’s 100-meter fly at the 2016 Italian Nationals.<\/p>\n

Rivolta picked up a winning time of 51.54 to move to fifth in the world behind\u00a0Piero Codia<\/strong>. \u00a0Codia moved to fourth in the world with a 51.42 earlier in the day.<\/p>\n

Codia took second tonight in 51.72 with Rivolta and Codia both clearing the FINA A cut of 52.36 for potential selection onto the Olympic team.<\/p>\n

Daniele D’Angelo<\/strong>\u00a0(52.60),\u00a0Francesco Giordano<\/strong>\u00a0(52.89),\u00a0Giacomo Carini<\/strong>\u00a0(53.19),\u00a0Filippo Berlincioni<\/strong>\u00a0(53.47),\u00a0Simone Geni<\/strong>\u00a0(53.47) and\u00a0Enzo Nardozza<\/strong>\u00a0(54.70) finished third through eighth in finals.<\/p>\n

Lisa Fissneider<\/strong>\u00a0touched out\u00a0Ilaria Scarcella<\/strong>\u00a0to win the women’s 200-meter breast as both cleared the FINA A cut of 2:26.94 for possible Olympic selection.<\/p>\n

Fissneider won in a time of 2:26.74 with Scarcella putting up a 2:26.86 for second.<\/p>\n

Francesca Fangio<\/strong>\u00a0wound up third overall in finals tonight in 2:27.06.<\/p>\n

Giulia Verona<\/strong>\u00a0(2:27.43),\u00a0Elisa Celli<\/strong>\u00a0(2:28.83),\u00a0Lisa Angiolini<\/strong>\u00a0(2:30.09),\u00a0Natalia Foffi<\/strong>\u00a0(2:30.66) and\u00a0Letizia Memo<\/strong>\u00a0(2:31.68) put up the rest of the times in finals.<\/p>\n

Men’s 400 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n

Federico Turrini<\/strong>\u00a0unleashed a 4:11.95 in the men’s 400-meter IM to move to third in the world at the 2016 Italian Nationals.<\/p>\n

Turrini’s time put him behind only\u00a0Kosuke Hagino<\/strong>\u00a0(4:08.90) and\u00a0Thomas Fraser-Holmes<\/strong>\u00a0(4:11.09) in the world this year, and clearly undercut the FINA A cut of 4:16.71.<\/p>\n

In fact,\u00a0Luca Marin<\/strong>\u00a0also eclipsed the FINA A cut with a 4:14.65 for second to set up potential Olympic selection by Italy.<\/p>\n

Giorgio Gaetani<\/strong>\u00a0finished third overall in 4:19.70 with\u00a0Lorenzo Tarocchi<\/strong>\u00a0(4:20.78) taking fourth.<\/p>\n

Matteo Pelizzari<\/strong>\u00a0(4:21.20),\u00a0Francesco Pavone<\/strong>\u00a0(4:21.96),\u00a0Giovanni Sorriso<\/strong>\u00a0(4:21.98) and\u00a0Stefano Ventrone<\/strong>\u00a0(4:28.11) also swam in the finale.<\/p>\n

Quadarella finished with the Italian Spring National Championship record, beating the former mark of 8:28.92 set by\u00a0Cristina Sossi<\/strong>\u00a0in 1989.<\/p>\n

Women’s 100 free<\/strong><\/p>\n

Federica Pellegrini<\/strong>, who first competed in the Olympics at the 2004 Olympic Games, is headed to her fourth Olympic Games after posting a 53.78 in the women’s 100-meter free at the 2016 Italian Nationals.<\/p>\n

Pellegrini, a 2008 Olympic gold medalist in the 200 free, cleared the FINA A cut of 54.43 to secure a spot on the Rio roster.<\/p>\n

Erika Ferraioli<\/strong> claimed second with a time of 54.87, just missing the A cut, while Aglaia Pezzato<\/strong> took third in 55.03.<\/p>\n
