Men’s 50 free<\/strong><\/p>\n

Olympic gold medalist Cesar Cielo<\/strong>, who scratched out of the chance to make the Brazilian Olympic roster in the 100, threw down a swift time in prelims of the men’s 50-meter free at the 2016 Maria Lenk Trophy meet.<\/p>\n

Cielo became the sixth Brazilian under the FINA A cut this year in a qualifying event with a 21.99. \u00a0That swim moved him up to seventh in the world rankings, and put him in the mix with Bruno Fratus<\/strong> (21.50) as the top two swimmers from Brazil in either the Brazil Open or this meet.<\/p>\n

Italo Duarte<\/strong>, who has a qualifying time of 22.08 from the Brazil Open, qualified second in 22.16. \u00a0Marcelo Chierighini<\/strong>, the 100 free winner, tied Canada’s Santo Condorelli<\/strong> for third with 22.22s.<\/p>\n

Ukraine’s Andrii Govorov<\/strong> (22.29), Fratus (22.35), Alan Vitoria<\/strong> (22.45) and Gabriel Santos<\/strong> (22.48) also made the championship finale.<\/p>\n

Women’s 50 free<\/strong><\/p>\n

Etiene Medeiros<\/strong>, who already has a qualifying time of 24.71 from the Brazil Open, put up the top time in prelims with a time of 24.84.<\/p>\n

Lorrane Cristina<\/strong> also cleared the 25.28 FINA A cut with a second-seeded 25.06. \u00a0That’s slower than Graciele Herrmann’s<\/strong> Brazil Open time of 24.92 to stand as the second-best qualifying so far.<\/p>\n

Herrmann took third this morning in 25.35 with Larissa Oliveira<\/strong> placing fourth in 25.41.<\/p>\n

Alessandra Marchioro<\/strong> (25.67), Priscila De Souza<\/strong> (25.74), Daiene Dias<\/strong> (25.91) and Luana Ribeiro<\/strong> (25.99) all cleared 26 seconds to make the finale.<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 fly<\/strong><\/p>\n

A trio of swimmers came into the meet with FINA A cuts from the Brazil Open.<\/p>\n

Henrique Martins<\/strong> (52.14), Marcos Macedo<\/strong> (52.17) and Nicholas Santos<\/strong> (52.31) all cleared the FINA A cut time of 52.36.<\/p>\n

Today, Vinicius Lanza<\/strong> moved into that mix with a top-seeded time of 52.22. \u00a0But, he’ll have to get into the 52.1s to have a chance to make the Olympic team.<\/p>\n

Thiago Pereira<\/strong> qualified second today in 52.48 with Santiago Grassi<\/strong> of Argentina taking third in 52.68.<\/p>\n

Henrique Souza<\/strong> (52.71), Guilherme Rosolen<\/strong> (52.73), Macedo (52.83), Arthur Mendes<\/strong> (52.87) and Kaio Almeida<\/strong> (53.01) also made the top eight.<\/p>\n

Women’s 200 back<\/strong><\/p>\n

China’s Yang Yifei<\/strong> paced prelims with a time of 2:14.97, well off the FINA A cut of 2:10.60.<\/p>\n

Natalia De Luccas<\/strong> finished second in 2:16.55 with Beatriz Silva<\/strong> qualifying third in 2:17.95.<\/p>\n

Fernanda Goeij<\/strong> (2:18.93), Maria Pessanha<\/strong> (2:19.14), Marina Oliveira<\/strong> (2:19.31), Florencia Perotti<\/strong> (2:19.38) and Aline Caetano<\/strong> (2:19.79) qualified fourth through eighth to comprise the championship eight.<\/p>\n
