Events:<\/strong><\/p>\n Women’s 100 Free Final:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n After posting a swift 54.53 in this morning’s prelims of the women’s 100-meter free,\u00a0Larissa Oliveira\u00a0<\/strong>succeeded in lowering her time to a 54.03. Oliveira’s time earns her twentieth in the top twenty world rankings for 2016 and a ticket to Rio. Oliveira also succeeded in reclaiming her Brazilian Record which Etiene Medeiros had overturned with her 54.26 in December.<\/p>\n Also joining Oliveira in Rio will be the former\u00a0Brazilian record holder for the event,\u00a0Etiene Medeiros<\/strong>, who posted a 54.26 at the Brazil Open in December.\u00a0Medeiros stopped the clock at a 54.50 today, just shy of her December time. Grabbing third was\u00a0Daynara Ferreira\u00a0<\/strong>with a time of 55.22, just ahead of\u00a0Manuella Lyrio’s<\/strong> 55.26.<\/p>\n Gracielle Herrmann<\/strong> and\u00a0Daiane Becker\u00a0<\/strong>turned in similar times of 55.80 and 55.82 for fifth and sixth.<\/p>\n Luana Ribeiro<\/strong> (55.88) and\u00a0Daiene Dias<\/strong> (56.06) finished seventh and eighth respectively.<\/p>\n Men’s 200 Back Final:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Leonardo de Deus<\/strong> maintained his spot atop the podium in the men’s 200-meter back finals with a final 1:57.57. de Deus’ time falls just short of his 1:57.43 from December’s Brazil Open, but still falls under the ‘A’ qualifying time of 1:58.22. He sits as the only Brazilian to qualify for Rio in this event.<\/p>\n Guilherme Augusto\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed second with a 1:59.34 to be the only other athlete under the 2-minute mark, while\u00a0Fabio Santi\u00a0<\/strong>was third with a 2:00.21.<\/p>\n Fourth went to\u00a0Fernando Pires\u00a0<\/strong>and his 2:01.14, just ahead of\u00a0Nathan Bighetti’s<\/strong> 2:01.18.<\/p>\n Leonardo Santos<\/strong> (2:01.69),\u00a0Rodrigo Quadros<\/strong> (2:02.84), and\u00a0Andre Dos\u00a0<\/strong>(2:02.85) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n Women’s 200 Breast Final:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Finals of the women’s 200-meter breaststroke were led by a strong foreign contingent.\u00a0Julia Sebastian<\/strong> of Argentina posted the top time of the evening with a 2:28.12, while fellow Argentinian\u00a0Macarena Ceballos<\/strong> touched second with a 2:28.21.<\/p>\n Japan’s\u00a0Sae Saito<\/strong> turned in a 2:28.24 to finish third and be the only other athlete under the 2:30-mark.<\/p>\n Minjie Sun<\/strong> of China finished fourth overall with a time of 2:30.89. Brazil’s\u00a0Pamela Souza\u00a0<\/strong>was the fastest Brazilian in the event, stopping the clock at a 2:31.75.<\/p>\n Slovakia’s Andrea Podmanikova<\/strong> (2:33.96),\u00a0Juliana Marangoni\u00a0<\/strong>(2:34.15), and\u00a0Carolyne Gomes\u00a0<\/strong>(2:34.38) completed the top eight.<\/p>\n Men’s 200 IM Finals:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n In\u00a0<\/strong>an unusual turn of events, there was a tie for first in finals of the men’s 200-meter IM.\u00a0Thiago Pereira\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Henrique Rodrigues\u00a0<\/strong>delivered matching times both under the FINA ‘A’ qualifying standard of 2:00.28. The two stopped the clock at 1:57.91 exchanging the lead throughout the race. The time is an improvement for both men after they both qualified for Rio at the Brazil Open in December.
