AFTER a strong first night of swimming, the second day of preliminary action took place at the USA Swimming Short Course National Championships held in Atlanta.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 medley relay<\/b><br \/>\nKING&#39;s foursome of Leona Jennings, Ariana Kukors, Lindsey Marchand and Kim Jasmer led the way with a time of 1:40.24, while Auburn&#39;s Margo McCawley, Abby MacGregor, Alana Dillette and Caitlin Geary took second in 1:41.10.<\/p>\n<p>SwimAtlanta (1:42.19), Auburn B (1:42.31), SMU (1:42.97), Alabama (1:43.18), Louisville (1:43.26) and Florida (1:43.32) completed the rest of the championship eight.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 200 medley relay<\/b><br \/>\nMichigan&#39;s squad of Alon Mandel, James Ridgeway, Chris Brady and Bobby Savulich claimed the top seed in 1:28.35, while Florida State&#39;s Andrew Hodgson, Scott Thacker, Jaryd Botha and Ed Denton finished second in 1:92.25.<\/p>\n<p>Auburn (1:29.42), Louisville (1:30.06), Auburn B (1:30.13), Alabama (1:30.45), Georgia Tech (1:30.55) and Seton Hall (1:30.67) picked up the rest of the transfer spots to the A final.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 400 IM<\/b><br \/>\nDagny Knutson of Minot continued her strong swims with a time of 4:07.58 to qualify first.  Ava Ohlgren of Auburn took second in 4:11.90, while Jana Mangimelli of SwimAtlanta placed third in 4:12.46.<\/p>\n<p>Kirstie Chen of Armada (4:13.15), Teresa Crippen of Florida (4:14.66), Leslie VanWinkle of Louisville (4:15.49), Shannon Vreeland of the Kansas City Blazers (4:17.05) and Melanie Margalis of Saint Petersburg (4:17.20) wound up taking the rest of the transfer spots.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 400 IM<\/b><br \/>\nMichigan&#39;s Tyler Clary earned lane four in the distance medley A final with a time of 3:45.86.  Trojan&#39;s Hidemasa Sano (3:46.47) and Magnus&#39; Nick D&#39;Innocenzo (3:48.30) finished second and third.<\/p>\n<p>Club Wolverine&#39;s Alex Vanderkaay (3:48.79), Suburban&#39;s Ian Clark (3:49.19), Michigan&#39;s Andre Schultz (3:50.88), Pine Crest&#39;s CJ Nuess (3:51.42) and Brophy&#39;s Alex Lendrum (3:52.31) made up the rest of the championship heat.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 100 fly<\/b><br \/>\nLonghorn Tanica Jamison posted the top prelim time with a 52.30, while KING&#39;s Lindsey Marchand took second in 52.54.  Rachel Komisarz (52.86) and Athens Bulldog Mary DeScenza (52.93) finished third and fourth.<\/p>\n<p>Western Kentuky&#39;s Claire Donahue (53.37), Palo Alto&#39;s Yumi So (53.52), Rockwood&#39;s Caroline Rodriguez (53.53) and Auburn&#39;s Alana Dillette (53.85) will bracket them in finals.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 100 fly<\/b><br \/>\nTucson Ford&#39;s Masayuki Kishida clocked a swift time of 45.83 to lead the way, while Kyle Bubolz of New Trier (46.36) and Matt Grevers of Tucson Ford (46.52) touches second and third.<\/p>\n<p>Jakob Andkjaer (46.70), Auburn&#39;s Alexei Puninski (46.78), Tucson Ford&#39;s Jeff Dash (46.80), Space City&#39;s Andy Haidinyak (47.02) and SwimAtlanta&#39;s Andres Duda (47.23) will join them in the championship heat.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 freestyle<\/b><br \/>\nDagny Knutson of Minot qualified first in this event as well with a 1:43.90.  SwimAtlanta&#39;s Amanda Weir (1:45.27), Longhorn&#39;s Tanica Jamison (1:45.37) and Longhorn&#39;s Samantha Tucker (1:45.75) were among the top four.<\/p>\n<p>Athens Bulldog Mary DeScenza (1:45.99), SwimFlorida&#39;s Erika Erndl (1:46.06), Auburn&#39;s Caitlin Geary (1:46.90) and Olympian Allison Schmitt (1:46.91) grabbed the rest of the A final slots.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 200 freestyle<\/b><br \/>\nMichigan&#39;s Charlie Houchin (1:35.18) and Tyler Clary (1:36.16) topped the event, with Kyle Cormier (1:36.21) and Daytona Beach&#39;s Ryan Lochte (1:36.21) tying for third.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia Tech&#39;s Noah Copeland (1:36.51), Michigan&#39;s Matt Patton (1:36.66), Australia&#39;s Leith Brodie (1:36.86) and Indiana&#39;s Titus Knight (1:36.89) completed the top eight.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 100 breaststroke<\/b><br \/>\nSuburban&#39;s Corrie Clark clocked the only sub-1:00 time of the morning to lead with a 59.84.  Lakeside&#39;s Elizabeth Tinnon (1:00.30) and George Mason&#39;s Ashley Danner (1:00.55) touched second and third.<\/p>\n<p>KING&#39;s Ariana Kukors (1:00.82) and Lindsey Marchand (1:00.96) finished fourth and fifth, while Brophy&#39;s Christine Olson (1:01.66), Agua&#39;s Annie Zhu (1:01.72) and Aquajet Abby Duncan (1:01.81) completed the top eight.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 100 breaststroke<\/b><br \/>\nSwimMAC&#39;s Mark Gangloff earned the top seed with a time of 53.38, while Tucson Ford&#39;s Bart Steninger finished second in 53.44.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Alexandrov, now swimming under the United States flag after competing for Bulgaria as a dual-citizen the past few years, qualified third in 53.61.<\/p>\n<p>Poseidon&#39;s Stuart Ferguson (53.80), Hunor Mate (53.97), Longhorn&#39;s Eric Shanteau (54.06), Louisville&#39;s Vali Preda (54.23) and Longhorn&#39;s Matt Lowe (54.40) also made the A final.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 100 backstroke<\/b><br \/>\nBrophy&#39;s Noriko Inada posted the fastest time with a 53.30, while Athens Bulldog Mary DeScenza placed second in 53.41. Westerville&#39;s Kate McNeilis (53.85), Rays&#39; Erin Reisinger (53.86) and Aquajet Rachel Bootsma (53.89) were third through fifth.<\/p>\n<p>Auburn&#39;s Margo McCawley (53.93), KING&#39;s Ariana Kukors (54.01) and West Michigan&#39;s Emily Bos (54.04) also took A final spots.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 100 backstroke<\/b><br \/>\nIndiana&#39;s Ben Hesen continues to move closer to the top echelon of male backstroke in the U.S. as he qualified first in the 100 back with a 46.92.  A pair of Olympians, Tucson Ford&#39;s Matt Grevers (47.13) and Daytona Beach&#39;s Ryan Lochte (47.14), finished second and third behind him.<\/p>\n<p>Dallas Mustang Matt Thompson (47.58), Yale&#39;s Alex Righi (47.72), SwimAtlanta&#39;s Andres Duda (47.75), Michigan&#39;s Alon Mandel (47.91) and Auburn&#39;s Kohlton Norys (47.95) finished fourth through eighth to make the A final.<\/p>\n<p><a href=http:\/\/65.110.72.225\/SPIPDF\/120508usascyd2p.pdf target=_blank>Full Results<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ATLANTA, Georgia, December 5.
