LINCOLN, Nebraska, November 20. NORTH Texas swimmer Emily Floyd broke her second school record of the season leading the Mean Green into second place after the first day of the Husker Invitational.<\/p>\n
Floyd broke the school record in the 1650 Freestyle by almost 15 seconds (16:52.89) while finishing in first place. She owned the previous record from the Sun Belt Championships last season (17:07.27).<\/p>\n
Two other North Texas swimmers, Angie Dworschack and Hillary Riedmann, set their own personal bests in the 1650 Free. Dworschack finished third with a time of 17:10.50 and Riedmann got eighth clocking in at 17:26.09.<\/p>\n
Out of 45 competitors from nine schools in the event, North Texas had three swimmers finish in the top eight.<\/p>\n
"It was a terrific way for us to start off this Invitational," said North Texas swimming head coach Joe Dykstra. "The records and personal bests always show how much effort the swimmers are giving out there. I am proud of the team establishing themselves on the first day."<\/p>\n
North Texas claimed second place with 130 points just behind Rice's 135.<\/p>\n
In the other event on Thursday, the 400 Freestyle Relay, North Texas had another good showing. The Mean Green had teams finish in second and eighth place. The second place team of Rosa Gentile, Alicia Hale, Seabre Pope, and Nicole Leslie lost by a hair to Rice's team by .07 seconds (3:29.85). North Texas barely beat out Iowa State's team by .02 seconds.<\/p>\n
The eighth place relay team for the Mean Green was Carleigh Kutac, Erika Roach, Dawn Richerson, and Elizabeth Weiss (3:33.75).<\/p>\n
