WADA had suspended the laboratory back in November 2015, and this follow-up action acknowledges the lack of control that the lab has had in curbing Russian doping. This comes after a stream of doping violation coming from Russian athletes, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/yuliya-efimova-reportedly-tests-positive-for-meldonium\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">including a positive test for meldonium from breaststroke star <\/span><b>Yuliya Efimova<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that has the potential to end her competitive career<\/span><b>. All eyes were on defending <\/span><b>Chad le Clos, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who will be the defending gold medalist in the 200 butterfly this summer. <\/span><b>Le Clos <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/chad-le-clos-cruises-6th-best-100-fly-world-51-82-clinches-olympic-spot\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">won the 100 (51.82)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/chad-le-clos-smokes-3rd-fastest-200-fly-year-155-04\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">200 butterfly (1:55.04)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to clinch his Olympic berths. Those times were good for sixth and third in the world respectively this year. <\/span><b>Le Clos <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2016-south-african-nationals-day-3-live-recap\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also qualified in the 200 freestyle (1:47.75)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>Cameron van der Burgh, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the other defending gold medalist from South Africa, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/cameron-van-der-burgh\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also punched his ticket to Rio with a 59.66<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That is right on his second ranked time of 59.61 from earlier this year. Notably, <\/span><b>Roland Schoeman <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/brad-tandy-wins-50-free-22-13-roland-schoeman-misses-5th-olympic-games\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">missed qualifying for his fifth Olympic Games after finishing third in the 50 freestyle in 22.75<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>Brad Tandy <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">won the event in 22.13. Bick<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This week saw U.S. stars from across the country converge in Mesa, Arizona for one of the last stops of the Arena Pro Swim Series this year, with remaining stops in Charlotte, Santa Clara, and Indy still on the event calendar. <\/span><b>Dana Vollmer <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/video-interview-motherhood-puts-dana-vollmers-swimming-in-perspective\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">came to the meet with her fullest schedule since her comeback, competing in the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles along with the 100 butterfly<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The 100 butterfly was the highlight for the comeback mom, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/dana-vollmers-100-fly-4th-in-the-world-fastest-us-woman-since-2012\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">where she touched in 56.94<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That is the fastest time posted by an American since 2012. <\/span><b>Vollmer<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/womens-50-freestyle\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">posted a personal best of 24.69 in the 50 freestyle to finish second<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/simone-manuel-takes-mesa-100-freestyle-title\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a 54.54 in the 100 freestyle to grab third<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The qualifying times for the British team in many events were well under the FINA A cut in most events, meaning several events will go without British representation in Rio. Having said that, there were several athletes who were able to squeak by the qualifying standard and punch their ticket to Rio.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>James Guy <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">punched the first British ticket to Rio, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/james-guy-rises-to-second-in-400-free-world-rankings-punches-ticket-to-rio\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">winning the 400 freestyle in 3:43.84 to get under the qualifying time<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/james-guy-scares-british-record-world-best-145-19-200-free\/\"><b>Guy <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">later posted the top-ranked time in the world in the 200 free (1:45.19)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, scaring the British record. <\/span><b>Hannah Miley <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was the first female to qualify for the Rio Olympics, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/hannah-miley-moves-to-second-in-world-rankings-for-400-im-first-female-to-earn-olympic-berth-at-british-nationals\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">touching first in the 400 IM in 4:33.40<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>Chloe Tutton <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also moved to fourth in the women\u2019s 200 breaststroke, touching first in 2:22.34 to break the British record and qualify for Rio. <\/span><b>Andrew Willis <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">just got past <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/andrew-willis-races-to-2nd-in-world-in-200-breast-208-08\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the ultra-fast qualifying standard of 2:08.52 in the 200 breaststroke to take the win in 2:08.08<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. After missing in the 800 free early in the meet, <\/span><b>Jazmin Carlin <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">punched her ticket to Rio in the 400 free, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/jazmin-carlin-punches-ticket-rio-olympics-4th-best-400-free-year\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">posting the 4th fastest time in the world (4:04.33) to just get under the British standard<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Adam Peaty <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was the highlight of the meet, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-clocks-world-best-100-breast-earns-ticket-rio\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">touching in 58.41 to post the world\u2019s fastest time in the world in the 100 breaststroke<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that was just off of his world record. In his post-race interview, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-aiming-for-sub-57-9-100-breast-at-rio-olympics\/\"><b>Peaty <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stated he aims to be sub 57.9 this summer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Notably,<\/span><b> Magnussen <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(who is coming off of shoulder surgery) finished fourth in this race in 48.68 which will leave him with only relay duty this time around in Rio. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/underwater-race-video-cameron-mcevoys-sizzling-21-44-in-50-free\/\"><b>McEvoy <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also finished first in the 50 free in a personal best of 21.44<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and became <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/cameron-mcevoy-becomes-1st-aussie-man-sweep-50-100-200-frees\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the first Australian man to sweep the 50-100-200 at Olympic Trials<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other notable qualifiers included <\/span><b>Belinda Hocking<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Emily Seebohm <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the 200 backstroke, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/belinda-hocking-emily-seebohm-scorch-world-toppers-200-back\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who finished in 2:06.49 and 2:06.59 respectively<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/mitch-larkin-demolishes-own-world-leading-200-backstroke-time\/\"><b>Mitch Larkin <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the 200 backstroke (1:53.90)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/taylor-mckeown-vaults-to-3rd-in-world-with-olympic-qualifying-200-breaststroke\/\"><b>Taylor McKeown <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the 200 breast (2:21.45)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/jessica-ashwood-just-misses-aussie-record-in-800-free\/\"><b>Jessica Ashwood, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who just missed her Australian record in the 800 freestyle by one-hundredth of a second<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
